Absolutely unacceptable management if this Food Basics!!nnRight at the store entrance there is a huge “Mix & Match – 2 for $6.50” sign placed directly above Dempster’s burger buns. Any reasonable customer would assume the sign applies to the products displayed underneath it.nnAt checkout, the price suddenly becomes $5.88 for EACH package.nnI showed the cashier a photo, asked for the manager, and the manager’s response was unbelievable: “Oh, that’s put there by someone else. We don’t know anything about it.”nnSeriously? This display is INSIDE YOUR STORE, at the main entrance. Are customers supposed to guess which signs belong to Food Basics and which are apparently random decorations? If the manager doesn’t know what is being displayed at the entrance of the store, perhaps Food Basics should find someone who actually manages the store.nnTake responsibility for your pricing and your displays instead of blaming “someone else.” This is misleading, unprofessional, and a complete waste of customers’ time!!!!
Every time I go to this store I’m racially profiled at the self check out to the point where I don’t use it anymore. Mind you I live right down the street and go here all the time and never have I stole from the store. I start video taping before I get to the self check out kiosk and as soon as I step foot in the kiosk they are right at my back to the point where they start telling me the scan numbers on item like grapes banana etc. it’s only a few of them that do this I even had to speak with the manager… they sometimes are not even in the self checkout kiosk and leave other people in there to scan there orders but as soon as a black person steps in the kiosk they are right at your back even when I’m with my children. I started going to the regular cash which always has long line ups now because I feel so uncomfortable it really sucks to be black in these communities. They even once printed the receipt again after I left the kiosk to check if I scanned everything and they didn’t do that to anybody else.
I visited the Food Basics location some time ago and unfortunately had a very unpleasant experience. The behavior of one staff member, who appeared to be in a managerial role, along with another employee, was quite rude and unprofessional, which made me feel disrespected. I would expect a higher level of professionalism, especially from management. Based on this experience, I prefer not to shop at this location anymore.
Food Basics is your standard grocery store. It's a bit bigger than it looks from the outside. Like the name says, it has just about everything you need, decent prices as well. The staff was very helpful as well. I asked a young lass working there for some assistance, she happily obliged.nnCheers!
I’m really disappointed with my recent purchase here.nI bought chicken during the Friday weekly special, and the next day when I opened the packages, all of them were spoiled — green discoloration and disturbing spots. I had to throw everything away.nThis shouldn’t happen with fresh meat.
