Story

Five County Credit Union is a dynamic and successful, full service financial institution with fifteen branch locations located throughout the State of Maine. We service members who live, work and worship throughout our eight county field of membership. We have nine locations that are open until 8:00p Mon-Sat. Five County employees provide outstanding service to all our members. We also offer a variety of member resources that help enable our members to find the information that matters most to them. We are continually trying to find ways to make our members lives better by the products and services that we offer to them.

This is an extremely unfriendly bank. Working in a local one employee retail store and running out of change they would not sell $61.00 of quarters, pennies and $10 bills to allow me to continue working. I don't have an account with them, and begged a customer of theirs to purchase the denominations I needed. He kindly agreed and despite their admonishing him for helping, he went forward with my request. What a gentleman. The teller then made me wait unduly for the change. What an unprofessional and unbusinesslike place!!

Always a disappointment with their customer service. A business with hours that clearly state 4:30pm close should not be aloud to lock the doors at 4:24pm as you are walking up to the door.. Some people work and do all they can to make it in time... 
So thankful I changed my banking service years ago...

There are a lot of fees associated with an account at the credit union, too, just like there are at Big Evil Banks. If you change your PIN number, there's a fee.  If you check your account balance at an ATM, there's a fee for that.  Don't let them fool you.....credit unions are no better than banks, in a lot of ways.  

I was not able to get a loan through these guys, to refinance my car, either.  All that talk of "credit unions offer loans when banks don't"?  Yeah, I call shenanigans on that too. 

Customer service on the phone isn't too bad......at least the branches are conveniently located (my local WalMart has one right inside).  But they certainly didn't dazzle me with their account features, and I wouldn't rave about them.  

Basically I started an account here so that I'd have a backup, because it's convenient.

I recently opened my account at Five County after being an account holder at Bank of America. I was excited by the concept of no longer having to deal with large corporate tactics and instead entrust my money with a small, community based establishment. Instead I've had ridiculously slow transactions, a failure to receive debit cards after ordering them three times, and extremely rude customer service at the Lewiston branch. I've continuously been derided by the tellers and made to feel like a criminal whenever I try to withdraw money from my account (apparently the staff at the Lewiston branch doesn't feel that my photo I.D. is a very good representation of me). 

Unfortunately I'll be pulling out all of my money and going back to Bank of America. While their business tactics may be unscrupulous, they are indeed efficient and I've had better customer service (and trust me, that's not saying much!)
