First Presbyterian offers an intimate, family-style worship featuring unparalleled choral singing, insightful sermons and moving prayers. Sunday School is provided. Fellowship over refreshments follows every service.
First Presbyterian Church, Kenora, is part of the Presbyterian Church in Canada, specifically the Presbytery of Winnipeg and the Synod of Manitoba and North Western Ontario. Situated in a central location next to Brown’s Funeral Home and opposite Knox United, its current building was constructed in 1954 and is constantly being upgraded to meet the changing needs of the congregation. You are cordially welcome. Service on Sundays is at 9:30 a.m.
Our congregation actively supports the Kenora Fellowship Centre in a number of ways, one of which is by designating the first Sunday of each month as Fellowship Centre Sunday. Members contribute toiletry items and non perishable foods for the Centre's use. Extra food from dinners and other special events is also donated to the Centre. One of our elders, Lorna McTaggart, sits on the Centre's Board of Directors. Please contact us if you would like more information about the Centre and how to support it.
There are a number of groups within the congregation.
The governing committees meet monthly from September to June - the Kirk Session on the second Wednesday at 7:00 p.m., and the Board of Managers on the second Tuesday at 7:00 p.m.
Our Ladies’ Guild, which meets at 1:30 p.m. on the second Tuesday of each month from September to November and January to May and has a luncheon together in December and June, provides an opportunity for fellowship and supports the work of the congregation through fund raisers such as its Christmas Tea.
The Bible Study Group meets every Wednesday at 10:00 a.m. from September to November and January to about mid April. A wide variety of topics, chosen by the group, are discussed. No previous knowledge of the Bible is required to take part in this group which offers an informal opportunity to learn together.
The Choir, under the gifted leadership of Suzanne McIntosh and accompanied by the talented Kathleen Coulis adds a great dimension to Sunday worship. Practices are held at 6:45 p.m. most Thursday evenings from September to early or mid June.
The Building Fund Committee, which plans events to raise money for renovations, repairs, etc., meets as required.
Be sure to join us for our Annual Christmas Tea, featuring our famous fancy sandwiches and delicious sweets, as well as craft and bake tables, on the last Saturday of November.
Other special events are posted on our facebook page as they come up.
