First American Title Company

I've used First American for numerous transactions in the Sandpoint area and have always found them to be prompt, professional, and helpful. Would highly recommend them.

My wife and I recently bought a home. The seller bought us a title insurance policy from First American Title to guarantee that we would have good title to the property. First American Title gave us a title commitment and we gave the seller our hard earned money for the home. A month or so later we were served with a lawsuit from someone else who said they owned the property. We were horrified and confused. We contacted First American Title and asked for their help. About 30 days later we received a check in the mail with no explanation from First American Title. Upon contacting them, they said they decided to give us back the $600 the seller paid for the insurance rather than help us. The seller is gone and we are facing huge legal costs and an uncertain future. If you want a company that will do more than just take your money as long as there is no claim, I suggest you look for a reputable title insurance company, Do not go thru the horror that my family is facing.

Run from this business like your hairs on fire! The paper work did not look correct at our closing. I specifically asked our closing agent Holly Bauer if both of the sewer assessments of $5000 each would be paid out of the closing proceeds. She got up and went somewhere to check. When she came back she assured me they were both being paid. The paper work just showed it in an odd way. Four months later I get a call from the sewer district demanding $5000 for one assessment that did not get paid. I then called Holly to ask her why it did not get paid. She would not respond to my calls. I sent e-mails asking the same with no response. What great customer service! A week later I got an email from an attorney in Boise threatening to sue me if I did not pay the $5000 that day or if I ever tried to contact First American Title in Sandpoint again!!!! Wow!!! I paid the $5000 for a second time and don’t worry I will never contact that business again! I wonder what happened to my first $5000?
