The Fayette County Food Shelf is a non-profit organization dedicated to eradicating food insecurity in Fayette County. We appreciate your support. Thanks
The Food Shelf can be used a maximum of 4 times per year per household (this is once every 3 months). A food supplement package will be put together by the Coordinator and client according to what they can and willl use. This food package should help provide meals for 5-7 days according to the family size. Under certain conditions, the Coordinator can waive this, when fire, flood, or any natural disaster occurs.
Clients shall always present a voucher to obtain food packages. The referral vouchers will be accepted from area social workers and parish pastors. Referring agencies include but are not strictly limited to: Fayette County Department of Human Services, Northeast Iowa Community Action Corporation, Family Service Advocate, School Counselors, Parent Share and Support and area Churches. The Coordinator has the discretion about vouchers. Clients need to submit vouchers within 1 week of the date signed by the referring agency. If we are out of certain items, the Coordinator may give a voucher for these items to be redeemed at the local grocery story.
Properly referred clients may be denied our services: if they come more than once every 3 months, without showing dire need, i fthey are not residents of Fayette County or have in teh past abused the Food Shelf. The Coordinator also makes note if anyone abuses the privileges.
All information and records will be kept confidential regarding a client's visit to the Fayette County Food Shelf. The Coordinator does keep a file with the number of people helped during the current year.
So we may continue to serve the people of Fayette County, it is important that we continue to have donations of food, money, clothing, and miscellaneous items coming in at all times of the year. Our primary sources of funding are: Area Churches, Community Groups and Organizations, Boy Scout Food Drives, School Food Drives, UIU Phi Beta Lambda, grants and private donations.
Additional funds are raised by selling surplus clothing and miscellaneous items to the public. So please stop in!
We are thankful for the generosity and continued support for this very worthwhile project within our county.
