We love supporting our local restaurant in Hillsburgh, especially when there is live music! If you love small intimate dining experiences where people are nice, food is delicious, stop by. Or need to pick up a meal on your way home? There are lots of ready-made options in the Marketplace.
Love the farm to table menu here. Chef Fanjoy is always supporting our local farms and changes her menu seasonally. Love that she comes out quite often to visit the tables. She always welcomes you back like an old friend.
My fiancee and I, took advantage of a very warm day's drive out of the city and into the country. As we stumbled upon this amazing eatery nestled within Hillsburgh. 'The Friendly Chef' is exactly as the name says it is a very warm and inviting place, the atmosphere is rustic chic and the food and portion size is absolutely fantastic. I had the 'Chopped' burger and these amazing chilli fries which is off menu gluten free. My fiancee had the 'Squealer' burger, and probably the largest onion rings I've ever seen extra crunchy. We will make note to drive this way the next roadtrip, or at least on the way back.
Had a good time at our visit to Fanjoy... the food was quite delicious, really enjoyed the fries. My burger was a bit well done as was my friends sandwich but it was still good, and we liked the unique spin on traditional menu items. The service was a bit slow but super pleasant - overall a really comfortable environment for a relaxed night out if you’re not on any time crunch. Our server recommended some great drinks and made sure we were well taken care of. I thought the price was very fair for the quality and quantity of the food. Would definitely return!
Our family went to a Mother's Day Brunch today. The food was tremendous. The emphasis was on showcasing freshly made eggs scrambled, Eggs Benedict superbly roasted vegetables, various fresh breads and meats. The coffee was excellent and the best part of all: desert!! Chef Pam takes care to use fresh local ingredients where possible and creates these amazing dishes. We will come back because we love what Chef Pam does and how she does it.
TL;DR- Pretty shameful breakfast coming from a chef cocky enough to have a full page spread about herself in her menu. We went in for Sunday brunch. The server was lovely, but seemed nervous. The cream for my coffee was curdled, I mentioned it politely and had a fresh cup of coffee and new cream--- I wasn't concerned but the sweet server's clear nervousness responding to my complaint should have been noted as a red flag... As I had to learn the hard way. Placed order- one classic country breakfast, one farmer's feast or something. Both with eggs over easy. Waited 40 minutes to receive it. 40 minutes. The kicker WE WERE THE ONLY PEOPLE IN THE RESTAURANT. The server refilled our coffees and puttered around. The kitchen sounded busy, we could hear someone in there. We thought about leaving. The food finally came. It was food. Nothing exceptional. My eggs were cooked fine, my bacon was inconsistent 2 very very crispy pieces, 1 very gooey and limp. My date's bacon was the same. The sausages we're fine, the toast was toasted. The home fries were VERY GOOD. My date's over easy eggs were hard and he ended up sending them back. They corrected this quickly which is great, but they took his whole dish and when they came back they had swapped his homefries for ones fresh from the fryer with NO seasoning sitting in a pile of oil. Ugh, whatever, we finished, paid our $40 $40!!! Bill and left knowing that now we've tried it and will never go back.
Just went for burger night with my wife at Fanjoy. Pam posts quite a bit of neat events and really seems to work at being a part of the community, which we love. The restaurant is lovingly decorated, clean, warm and inviting. So cozy! I had the Classic Hills-burger and my wife had the turkey/cranberry/Brie grilled sandwich that she said was one of the best meals she’s ever had. The fries were homemade and cooked to perfection. The owner, Pam, was super welcoming and the pride in her restaurant was evident. All in all a wonderful dining experience and we look forward to sharing Fanjoy with our friends and family in the future. A gem!
We had chef Pam smoke a brisket for us for a super bowl party. The brisket turned out amazing. It was so juicy and full of flavour. All of our guests were very impressed with the meat. The buns were baked fresh in the morning and the homemade bbq sauce was a great touch as well. Everything was ready when we arrived to pick it up. We would definitely use Chef Pam again to cater any of our get togethers.
We went on a Sunday night and were surprised it was open. As they have new hours we partook in a nice dinner with a limited menu. The burger with the jalapeno popper inside is excellent. My wife had the souvlaki which was good, just a large portion which I enjoyed later. Chef Pam was cooking and everything was on point. Only miss was that the butter chicken was not available. We are looking forward to our next visit.
Stopped here for lunch with the wife and kids, Pam was a phenomenal host, her food was delicious and the beer was nice & cold We will definitely be back!
