Update: Initially, I rated Envie with 1 star, but my opinion has changed. My initial concerns included a severe roach problem and a filthy room upon moving in, and the old management not caring. The second issue involved racial and other types of harassment from a roommate, with management initially unresponsive despite promises. Only after posting my review did they take me seriously, implementing encouraging changes and I’m not the only one who went through these types of challenges. Standing up for myself was essential in achieving a stress-free living situation and to anyone reading this I’d encourage you to always stick up for yourself and don’t give up. Sometimes it’ll feel like screaming into the void but don’t give up until someone hears you. Now onto my updated review.nnPrice 5/5:nWhile it is on a higher end of prices that is to be expected for it’s location, the economy and the type of building. It matches with other apartment buildings like it. The shared rooms are a great option to save money too. It is a 12 month lease which is great if you need to stay in the summer too.nnQuality of Rooms 3/5:nPrimarily for Envie I, shared space quality depends on previous occupants. Couch stains and worn-out appliances are pretty common. It prompts the question of material choice – why opt for fabric couches if the commitment to maintenance seems lacking? My current room had pre-existing water damage before anyone’s move in making the floor look tacky and cleaning between the cracks difficult. Paint damage inside cabinets and on the wall is noticeable. It's advisable to inspect before choosing a unit. Some units are in amazing condition while others not so much. The units that are in good condition look amazing though so once again make sure to check out your unit before moving in if it’s an option for you. The stark difference between how modernized the common areas available to everyone look versus a lot of the common spaces in rooms is pretty evident. Actual bedrooms are pretty nice, and I’d recommend getting a clothes rack if you are going for the shared room. The quads have really spacey living rooms and kitchens and the triples are slightly smaller they are still super roomy.nnProximity 5/5:nEnvie's proximity to Carleton is amazing maybe even one of the best you can get for this price point, being only one bus stop away. If you are going to Uottawa or Algonquin it’s not worth it at all there’s better and closer options to live. If timed right it only takes 10 minutes to get to Carleton. There’s also a shortcut to walk to the bus so it’s a 2 minute walk. When the train resumes, it'll be an even shorter ride. Easy access to downtown, bank street/the glebe, and in Little Italy. It also has an easy route and is close to Gatineau.nnAmenities 5/5:nStudy rooms are great for studying, with comfortable chairs and a respectful atmosphere. The gym is typical but functional. The penthouse offers a stunning view, with pool and ping pong tables and a reservable kitchen area. Aisle 24, a 24/7 electronic convenience store in Envie II, is worth it for its convenience. The café in Envie I offers good food and drinks and also sells different types and milk and bread which is pretty convenient. While it took a while for it to be implemented, for each day of the month each floor is cleaned now including common spaces too. They have bike storage and parking available to purchase. Room service can be slow in September because of the new volume of new people but through the year it’s pretty fast and dealt with well. There’s also a shuttle bus to get groceries but I got the Walmart delivery free for a year since Sundays didn’t work for me.nnManagement 5/5:nI had a lot of issues with the old management as mentioned in the introduction. The changes that were implemented after this whole situation by the DOO and GM mean that if you are ever facing a troublesome roommate or bad room conditions you aren’t stuck. The front desk is super kind and helpful too. If you have any issues you can just walk into their office at any time.
Workers stalk you through the cameras then expose you . Management are in everyone’s business and talk about people. Never clean. They also create fake accounts and pay people to leave good reviews so be careful. One employee came into my apartment and started taking my stuff since they have a master key while I was abroad and he confessed.
Envie housing is a great option for both students and working people alike. You get a fully furnished apartment with options for all inclusive rooms with your own personal washroom. The building is in a wonderful location with plenty of local businesses near by. Amenities such as the gym are wonderful as they provide a convenient place to workout with having to leave the building. And the penthouse provides a lovely place to host your friends or family or simply watch some sports. One of my only cripes with Envie is the parking situation as it's expensive to park onsite. However the leasing manager Tom is wonderful, and helped me to explore many different options without even having to ask. All the staff here are lovely and will be sure to help you with whatever you need in a reasonable manner.
If you've recently moved to Ottawa and are looking for a fantastic place to live, this is the perfect spot for you. The management team here is exceptional and always ready to assist you with any needs or concerns, ensuring a smooth and pleasant living experience. The accommodations are not only comfortable and well-maintained but are also conveniently located close to the university. You'll be just a short, less than 5-minute bus ride away, making your daily commute quick and hassle-free. This combination of excellent support and prime location makes it an ideal choice for students and newcomers alike.
I have dealt with Tom, the leasing agent on multiple occasions and he’s always been professional, Quick responding and trying to figure out the best place for me to rent. I would definitely recommend Envie for the location as well as the all inclusive makes it no hassle. Always ask for Tom to get this started.
