We discovered this place on a walk around the neighbourhood and followed our noses to the Ember Kitchen. We were warmly greeted and seated at a table overlooking the river. The garage style windows were open to let in fresh air. We love Indian food and have been disappointed by so many Indian restaurants. We’ve finally found some well prepared, good quality Indian dishes at reasonable prices. Service was professional, the food was nicely presented and flavourful, the washrooms were spotless.
Some of the best Indian food we've ever had. The staff was friendly and helpful. We sat outside on a gorgeous day. The food was the perfect portion size and tasted amazing, was flavourful and so juicy. Definitely a favourite of ours now.
EMBER INDIAN KITCHEN Steveston Probably one of the nicest Indian restaurants around! I came here when they first opened but I had horrible service so I never came back. But I decided to give it another try! Service was better this time around! 1. BUTTER CHICKEN with GARLIC NAAN $23.50 Overall the dish was pretty good but not amazing. The chicken pieces were a bit dry. Lately I have been getting Butter Lamb which is offered from other Indian restaurants. If they had that option I would have done it with lamb. The sauce was good but I think I prefer the one from Ginger Indian Cuisine as it was cheaper, larger, and more flavourful. Village Curry also has a pretty good one! The garlic naan was good, but again I think I prefer the one from Village Curry. Overall it was good and definitely one dish that I would get again if I were to dine in here. 7.8/10 2. MIXED VEGGIE KORMA $20.00 This dish was good, but definitely not as flavourful as the Butter Chicken. I probably would not get this dish again. Not that it was bad, but I think I would just eat Butter Chicken only as it is so delicious! If you go to Best Bite Indian Cuisine, try the Mixed Veg Subji, THAT was delicious!!! 7/10 So yes, this place is going to be much pricier and you'll get less bang for your buck when compared to most Indian restaurants, BUT the dining atmosphere is extremely nice! You get a waterfront view, nice decor, and the food quality is pretty good. I would probably never get take out from this place, as there are better valued places, but if you want to dine somewhere nice, this place is great!
Enjoyed sunny dining & cocktails choose spice range from mild, medium, hot by eating outdoor patio with view of Steveston. Indoor dining spacious for rsvp host dining events birthday anniversary party going on for probably 50-60 people. Limited parking but free parking available across dike if you are open to walking.
My husband and I visited Ember Kitchen for a bunch of appetizers and drinks and had a great time! Good ambience, well thought out decor, and a very nice open space with a great patio. The owner was welcoming, friendly, and gave plenty of suggestions. Especially enjoyed the veggie samosas and spinach bhajia. They have a decent amount of vegetarian-friendly options. Loved Nani's Special Green Chutney too! We really enjoyed our experience there and look forward to trying out the main dishes next time we visit!
Enjoyed the BBQ platter and the palak paneer. I could taste the spices in every bite! Very flavourful! Portions were generous, service was impressive and value for money was en pointe. Will be back to try the other entrees. The mango lassi is very creamy! Great job team Ember! Note: the ventilation could be improved, smoke from the kitchen grill reaches the dining area.
With all of the great reviews, we were super excited to try Ember Indian kitchen as a part of Dine Out Vancouver. It was the worst experience ever. All of the food was served cold. At first we thought it was our own fault and that the appetizers were cold as we were taking selfies for Instagram. However, even the mains arrived cold. We let the staff know but were met with shrugs. Initially we actually sent the masala fish back as it looked nothing like the menu picture and was slathered with marinara. Lamb tikka flavours were good, but again cold. We attempted to stay positive. The fish was overcooked, as if it had been sitting out for a while. Half our plates were white rice and naan. Majority of our meals went into takeout bags with the intention to heated up at home, but we were so put off by the experience, we put the food in the bin as soon as we got home. Would not recommend.
Rough and tough, overcooked meat. Disappointing. BBQ platter was burnt and oily. Beef roganjosh was surprisingly sour and there was a thick layer of ghee on top. For $20, we only got 5 pieces of overcooked beef. Only the beef samosa and naan were good. Beef samosas were excellent. Everything in the photo was $56, I would never come again. Poor quality/quantity to price ratio.
Interesting take on Indian cuisine, for us not spicy enough but we are more into South Indian fare. Tasty, good selection and a big place in a quiet spot off the crowded areas of Stevenson. We would go here again to try some entrees for sure. Really nice staff. And parking available.
We got this food delivered to our hotel. The restaurant never gave us any plates or cutlery for our food. The butter chicken was definitely not the best in the lower mainland. It was fairly tasteless and the chicken was a weird texture and very hard to chew. The other food we ordered was ok, but it was all cold by the time we were able to eat it as we had to go on a hunt in the hotel to get plates / cutlery.
