I’m a massive fan of Turkish cuisine, so when we headed over for a family dinner we arrived with high expectations. Elma did not disappoint!nnThe service was great with Ebony getting us off the mark with some wine before we ordered our feast. We ordered 7 dishes in total and while they were all delicious, the lamb, octopus and pasta came out as the favorites.nnThere are already plans formulating for a return visit to try the weekend brunch. Looking forward to heading back to this new favorite.
One of the best restaurant dining experiences I have ever had. The building itself is a great location, well decorated and excellent atmosphere, and the open air top floor with lake view is amazing. As for the food itself, top notch and I cannot wait to go back again to try more dishes. We went as a group which made it nice to try some options including the octopus, scallops and one of their flatbread pides. For the mains we had the beef shish as well as the pasta, and the seasonings and flavour through everything was top notch. If I had only one night in penticton, the dinner would be at Elma.
We were visiting Penticton for the first time, we spotted Elma and that tickled our fancy. Staff said that plates are shareable and we were told our initial orders could feed a party of 5. Looks can be deceiving, our party's tiny bodies have big appetite So we ended up ordering more. Honestly, it's the best welcome meal for us! We enjoyed every dish we ordered and we didn't leave a single crumb on our plates. The foods were soooo good and filling! And surprisingly, the prices are very reasonable! Highly recommend!!! We even forgot to take photos of the dishes because we were truly savoring the taste of the foods before us. Thank you, Elma for the very memorable experience
Truly, one of the best dining experiences I’ve ever had. The staff was lovely, the food was delicious, and the restaurant is very modern and clean. Not pictured but the Charcoal Octopus was one of my favourite dishes.
You have to try the shashlik the meat was incredibly tender and juicy, and the lavash served alongside it complemented the dish perfectly. The Antep kebab and the green sauce were flavorful, but unfortunately both were extremely salty. I think excessive salt is a general issue at Elma, as the atom side sauce was also overly salty, the additional sprinkled salt was completely unnecessary. The chef mentioned that the atom is made with only yogurt, but in both texture and taste it felt much more like an aioli. I did appreciate the use of whole pistachios in it, which is not something we traditionally do in Turkey.nnThe beet borani was not really a borani. Borani dishes are made with yogurt; while labneh is technically a dairy product, it doesn’t deliver the characteristic borani taste. I would describe it more accurately as something like whipped labneh with beet. Unfortunately, it was quite bland. The crispy garlic had no real flavor, and the beet chips were soft rather than crispy.nnThe erişte was tasty overall, but it wasn’t actually erişte — it felt more like a generic noodle.nnThe sujuk in the pide is homemade and was excellent; that was a pleasant surprise. The arugula touch on the pide was also a nice addition.nnI was surprised to find cinnamon in the baklava. While cinnamon is common in the Persian version, it’s not typically used in Turkish baklava.nnService-wise, our server was great and genuinely helped improve our experience. And the decoration is beautiful.
