Story

Today Elgin’s population is more than 110,000 strong. For many years, the Elgin Police Department has been practicing a community policing philosophy that has had a tremendous impact on crime in our community. Currently our crime rate is at a near-40 year low. By using an aggressive and practical policing approach that partners the department with community residents, businesses and civic organizations, we have all been able to improve our neighborhoods and city.

The department's authorized sworn officer strength is 180 officers. We realize that in these times of fiscal challenges, we cannot expect to be provided with more officers, but we can be expected to adjust our business practices to become more efficient with the officers we have. Through technological advances and by staffing units with officers whose personal and professional strengths are in the areas they are working for, we believe this goal is being met.

Officer Cherie Aschenbrenner truly empowers the residents of the municipality.   She is the bridge between law enforcement becoming successful in their ability to serve and protect, and the residents having the opportunity to become self sufficient in being out in front of small potential problems escalating into larger ones.   Officer Cherie reflects high integrity, exhibits teamwork within the municipality, and is results oriented on behalf of her residents.  SHE GETS IT DONE WITH JUST A SMALL REQUEST.  She is super kind.  We are just so blessed.  A happy resident is a happy Officer Cherie!  :) SO THANKFUL!!!!!!   Keep up the great work ELGIN PD!!! :)

Cool historical items in the lobby. Always open, but often locked late at night where you need to be buzzed in. Often there will be some drunk passed out just inside the locked door, and a couple resident homeless people out front all seasons. Desk officer is not always a sworn officer but usually helpful.

Here is one example of how absolutely crappy they are. Gave my kids dad an order of protection against me after witnesses called the police because they saw him chasing me down Chicago st. With his car while I was on foot. He was driving up on lawns trying to run me over with his car for two blocks. Police came and asked me where he was after he drove off and because he wasn't there the officer suggested I saw an invisible car and chuckeled a little and made me feel like if I wanted to complain I could go downtown and be arrested.

I've feared police since the day I was slammed on my face in the snow by **officer echeverria** in my teenage years. When shouldn't I as an adult..and a educated ,taxpaying citizen feel safe around police nope every time I see you guys I think how are they gonna try to ruin my life today ...lbvs ...smh...police are a joke in this day and age ....I used to think maybe just ..maybe officer echeverria ..was just a bad apple but nope you are all bad apples !!! Then I heard he got promoted for what ?? So he can walk around with his little napolean complex  beating up more kids,doing illegal searches ,threatening people with illegal jail if they don't listen to him this man is a piece of **** karma will get him god sees everything Lil man dont forget ..I'm sure you forgot about the incident that cold December night but I never did..carry on..

I'd like to personally thank officer Mendez for leaving us stranded after he pulled us over. The Dick left after he saw that our vehicle had died in the process. Protect and serve my ass.
