It's probably a good thing that this store is closing in December. If you have a loyalty reward program for your pet's food you will need to talk to the owner soon. I've lost out on any remaining Acana bag's before my free one since they're closing in December. When you sell holistic products you should know more about them. I had a few questions regarding what holistic brand would be best. As well as how much to use for different sizes/breeds of dog's as the labels really didn't help. The staff couldn't answer my questions and just flat out said I don't know. I bought a few different brands and they weren't worth the expensive price tag. Unless you're checking your item's out they really don't know how to help you. The owner has need rude to me on several occasions as well. I haven't been back here and only deal with global pet food's in St. Thomas now. I've lost out on my loyalty food program at this location. Not happy about it! Stay away from here unless the closing specials start soon.

I went into Elgin pet today to buy a special treat for my brothers two boxers. I told the girl at the counter the dogs have allergies and she sold me two treats from the front counter. When I got home I called and asked if I could bring back treats since my brother said there was wheat in them. All within ten minutes I wasn't allowed to bring back treats (still in bag) because she said I left my receipt on the counter. She remembered me because I was just there. The knowledge of the staff and the treatment I got on the phone was horrible. I would not recommend going to Elgin pet if you are looking for good costumer service and knowledgeable staff.

Wish I could give this place zero stars. The treatment of their animals is absolutely horrific. They have had a ferret on sale for over three weeks now in a cage smaller than a hamster cage with a wire bottom (wire bottom hurts their delicate feet). they have been feeding the ferret dry food when it should be getting wet food as it is only a baby, and the poor thing is all alone in it's cage. Not only that but ferret require toys and they have none for it in there. They also put to many animals in one enclosure (such as their mice, hamsters, birds etc...). PLEASE DO NOT SHOP THERE. I WILL NEVER RETURN TO THIS STORE. Breaks my heart to leave those poor animals in that place but I cannot support this establishment.

Was coming in from another town, to Elgin pet looking for rats . Was on the phone with a gentleman who said "I don't want to do that" when I had asked for employee to take the 2 seconds to go over and look at the rats so I knew what colours/size I was going to be getting before I drove into town. Employee who simply did not want to get up turns out to be the owner (no suprise). An Owner who is to lazy to get up from the front of the shop and walk down an aisle to the back is not worth buying from or even working for. Very unprofessional. Not to mention ALL animals are sick , some pull threw it and survive , but most pets boughten here die. There is two UNSOCIALIZED parraots with MAJOR anxiety problems located at the front on the shop, just by looking at these poor animals and their conditions you can tell something is severely wrong with them. After my strange experience with the lazy unprofessional owner, and my heartbreaks over the 3 years of myself seeing all these poor conditions and animals, I will not be returning . Too bad ospca hasn't swung by to chat with the owner.

Wish I could give those place a no star rating. We have bought a few guinea pigs only because they were in pathetic conditions and they broke our hearts. We lost both of them shortly after bringing them home and a few hundred dollars trying to save them at the vet. Never again will I buy anything from this store, including our dog, cat or chinchilla food . The owner doesn't care about the lives of any of these creatures to him they are dollar signs. He is rude and in my opinion heartless. Spend your money elsewhere. There are are much more reputable businesses to give your money to.
