Great little breakfast place, mostly classic dishes, a few interesting ones, everything was great. Well prepared and flavourful, this is the perfect quick spot for a full breakfast. Fast service, they were very hospitable and didn't rush us when half our party was late because they were dealing with 2 kids under 4. Also kid friendly here! Good value, tasty food, kind staff. Kid-friendliness: High chairs and attentive service to help with what we needed for the little ones.
I’m usually a 5 star girl but I have to discount due to the fact that the calamari was rubbery most likely frozen and the salsa was more like a clumpy tomato sauce. The servers were amazing and the fajitas were tasty. But overall I think some of the food is not fresh and it needs an updated menu with a new chef to bring local ingredients alive.
We dined in in early Sep 2022. It is next to Irwin Inn and have access to here inside. The 10% off coupon from the hotel can’t be used for breakfast ! The wait time for food was 40 minutes. The breakfast for two cost c$48 incl tax and tips with free coffee refill.
The waiter there was rude and unwelcoming, and the food didn't taste authentic neither did it taste good. The fajitas and tacos were subpar and I would prefer fast food style mexican food chipotle.... On top of all of this, the food was expensive, I don't know if the breakfast taste good or not, but the dinner was not worth whatsoever. All in all, do not go.
Had a great time here for dinner. Very friendly staff and quick service in a nice atmosphere with simply amazing food. Would definitely recommend their braised lamb shoulder
Yes, we left things too late in Banff, on New Years Eve. My wife called around and due to a cancellation, we got lucky to get a 6 PM reservation down the street from where we were staying. We come out here every year at this time and try to sample as much of the local cuisine as we can. The décor was Mexican flavored with decorations for the season. Things did look a bit dated, but were comfortable for our party of eight. After all, we were glad to be able to get a place that late, and could take a party of that size. The waiter and staff were attentive, but missed a few chances add to our bill as they didn't come around as frequently as they should for drinks, or to check if anyone wanted anything more. I didn't dock them for that as they were so polite and willing to please that we could have asked them instead of waiting to be asked, if we really needed to quench our thirst. A quick appetizer of garlic bread and Calamari before the main course, in my case a 6 oz Sirloin, with mashed potatoes, and a side of mushrooms. There were veggies included as well but I left them off tonight. The steak was more than 6 oz and had a light gravy that added to the taste. Cooked perfectly, and complimented by some of the best mashed potatoes I have had in a long time. Mushrooms were a perfect compliment and every member of our party had nothing but good to say about a variety of more traditional Mexican fare. There was room for desert and our choice took some time to prepare, but the Lava cake, strawberries, ice cream, and whipped cream were a perfect shared finale to the meal. Not only were we all pleased with the food, but when the bills came there was no complaints about the value as the food was good, filling, and comfortable. We all left with a Happy New Year from the staff. Few small changes and I think that El Toro would become a much more popular stop on Banff Avenue as more come to taste the food. I have no problem recommending this restaurant to those that want something both familiar and yet new.
Really good food - we enjoyed the 'Mexican Monday' where prices were slashed on specific dishes. I recommend the chicken enchiladas and the desert brownie worth the wait as it's cooked on order only.Food: 5/5
This is a fine dine Mexican restaurant. The staff was very welcoming. The quantity of the food was generous. Overall very good experience and good food.
Because of their great Monday offer we decided to have dinner. We ordered Burrito, Fajita and Enchiladas and it was quite nice and we were satisfied. The waitress was very nice as well. So far I would have given 5 stars. As soon as we got the bill we were confused. The prices were higher for drinks and food. So we let the waitress know kindly about the mistake. She answered that she made a mistake on the drinks and will redo the bill. But according to her we were supposed to pay 16,99$ per dish instead of 14,99$ because everything is more expensive at the moment. More confusion on our side because it was not written on the menu nor did she say anything about it when we’ve ordered. So in the end, after we made clear that we are not paying the extra, she walked off and wasn’t as friendly as in the beginning. Quite the bitter note at the end…
WOW! We went to Banff to elope and honestly, this was the BEST food we had the whole time while in Banff. Dont skip out on this little gem. We got the fajitas to share and come chips/salsa. The chips were SO GOOD. I mean everything was wonderful ! We called just 5 min after the cut off for delivery we did not know but they still took our order and delivered it to our hotel room. thank you for the great experience! This was a perfect end to my wedding night. We will be back 100%!
