Yum yum. This tiny Mexican joint is great. What this place lacks in decor and frills, it makes up in cheap delicious eats. We’ve never been dissatisfied with the food or service. Get a Mexican coke and prepare for a delicious, fresh, piping hot meal.Recommended dishesTampiqueña
Was looking for something more authentic and less touristy. This place did not disappoint. The tacos were full of meat, everything came out very fast. If you’re looking for a “where the locals go” this seems to be the spot. Very affordable for a tourist town.
Absolutely perfect! Great price for the amount of food you get, awesome service. It’s extremely authentic northern Mexican cuisine. We couldn’t be happier!
This place needs more reviews. It's authentic Mexican food. Not only authentic but freaken delicious. That red salsa is fire. This price is much more affordable than restaurants in this town. You must try this place while here.
Who's not rating this at least 4 stars? Ok, 5 may be steep but that's how I roll and their rating should be better. Things to note: - the salsa verde is noticeably hot and I usually get 4 out of 5 at Thai restaurants. Don't come if you're a wimp. - portions are huge! Prices seemed steep but you don't normally get 5 enchiladas plus rice and beans and a random side of sour cream just 'cause. Plus, you know, they have to pay rent in Jackson Hole/Teton Village - They don't have stuff like ground beef red enchiladas what I was in the mood for but I was surprisingly thrilled with my green chicken ones. Plus they have many options for guaraches - get whatever is in that cast iron skillet. It looks/smells delightful. I would've, but my heart was set on cheese and sauce - they have beer: just Corona and Modelo. But a Corona 40 and a glass to pour it in seems quite popular. - the clientele is local and Spanish-speaking, but the waiters know enough English to get your monolingual self in and out.
Very authentic Mexican restaurant. Filled restaurant during dinner tonight. We knew we hit a gem when the menu was mainly in Spanish, thank you Google translate! Food prepared right in restaurant window. We would come back when in town. Bano is in a store room. Not the nicest restroom.Food: 5/5
A no frills, relaxed atmosphere. Good service and great food! It is not junky fast food. We will definitely be going back. Wheelchair accessibility: No stairs, low tables.
¡La comida aqui es mejor! The food here is the best. I've traveled all over Mexico, speak Spanish, and I live in Phoenix, therefore, I know Mexican food. Please ignore the ignorant reviewer who referred to this place as "South American." The owners of El Matate are from the Mexican State of Tlaxcala. This is a family-run "hole-in-the-wall" compliment with busy times like most legitimate restaurants. Relax, don't be in a hurry. Enjoy the REAL Mexican food!
Good food and service. Authentic Mexican. Nothing fancy. Bottled sodas. Several Mexicans eating here. Always a good sign. Red sauce is very hot. Rice was excellent. Large portions.
Always the best prices always the best treat to the customers when it's rush hour 11 to 2 its understandable to have some delays to spect everything looks fresh and taste fresh Kid-friendliness: There's a small menus for kids
