El El Frijoles
"EL EL FRIJOLES is the Taqueria in a barn, out in the middle of the woods here in coastal Maine. Yes, we are different, but that is how we roll! We make our food from scratch, we grow a lot of our ingredients, and we don't limit ourselves to tacos and chalupas. In fact, we don't own a fryer, so there are no chalupas. Or churros, or Dorito-inspired crispy taco creations. Just real, honest, innovative food served in a relaxed and gracious atmosphere. We are not the place for everyone, but many of our customers tell us we are the greatest restaurant on earth, so there is that..... All we know, is we have been at this for more than a decade, and it is still fun, they keep coming back, and we keep figuring out more stuff all the time. Try us!"

Amazing place! Food is always delicious, people are friendly, great indoor & outdoor seating. Not to be missed really. +
An awesome spot to check out when in the area. Really enjoyed reading their story while enjoying our burritos.. All homemade with ingredients from their garden right out front!
We loved it.Wicked good food and the folks are relaxed and real but very professional. The place is funky and fun. Worth the drive from Northport even on a weekday evening.Food: 5/5
My wife and I were interested in checking this place out; we've recently moved from California and wanted some good burritos. No matter that we live 30 miles away, we took a drive and showed up around 5:30 on a Friday night. Still dealing with COVID so we ordered from the deck. It took no time at all for 3 burritos and a bag of chips with salsa. We tried the carnitas, the carne asada, and the rajas y papas burritos...VERY TASTY! Good sized, plenty of fillings, meat flavored well. The salsa selection was good though next time I'll get more of the spicy, smoky one. Which means yes...there will definitely be a next time. Highly recommend this place and can't wait to come after the COVID stuff is over to try more items.
As a Texan and a fan of Mexican inspired food, it was great finding this little gem all the way up in Maine. Not only was the food fantastic from the scratch kitchen, but the owners made us feel very welcome during our visit. If you like food that is a mash up of Los Angles, Monterey, and Maine, this is your place. And don’t be thrown by the pictures that make it seem like there are only a few seats; there are plenty of picnic tables for your party.
Don’t pass them by! Top notch culinary skills served up with friendly service and vibrant atmosphere!
If you are remotely in the area, one of my favorite spots ever! Love the owners!
Thank you El El!! Best fresh mex experience and wonderful people making delicious and healthy food. Check their FB/IG/.com for updates on how they’re taking orders and serving. Super friendly and good people.
In my travels I always try a Mexican place if I stumble upon one. Glad to find this gem today! Being from California I do enjoy me some Mexican fare. These guys are awesome!! I’ll be back on my next trip your way.
I've only been here once since moving down to the Deer Isle/Brooklin Maine area from nearer Acadia, so I will probably update this post... at least to add more favorites! My husband and I LOVED the burritos... we splurged on the spicy lobster burrito because it was summer and why not, and it's a perfect Mexi-Cali, or just plain Mexican -- not sure where most food originates from these days, but it definitely had me thinking back to the awesome burrito joints I used to eat from during my 20's in So Cal. It's big and full of beans and rice and wasn't too spicy at all unless you want to add from there impressive array of hot sauce and Sriracha, or dress it up with hot pickled onions and jalapeño. Next time we'll be opting for the patas potato and pork combo burrito, since the sweet young woman said it was her fave. Thinking about it, we're actually heading over right now! I got the nachos with pulled pork, and so we ordered "for here" since you really have to when it's nachos. The pulled pork was perfectly luscious and back-yard BBQ tasting, and the nacho plate was seriously big; could have fed a family of four for appetizers, piled high with fresh fried corn chips, spot-on cheddar, pork, black beans and salsa, and some seriously amazing guacamole. I had to give up about a third of the way through, with help from my hubby, but we decided to take it home with the chips from his burrito the burrito, flavors given some time to mingle, reheated like a dream the next day plus an extra handful from the wonderful staff, and they made for a great reheat too, though I'd still recommend you eat your nachos "for there"... and not just for the sake of the nachos, but because the place is amazingly chill, with picnic tables that have tabletop corn-hole games we had a blast playing, screaming and dancing for each score!, Adirondack chairs for those just wanting to sit a bit, a screened in picnic area in case of bugs, and a few tables inside for during the cold weather. Since moving near El El, I've heard a few out-of-towner summer renters complain about the hours: Wednesday to Sunday in summer or Wednesday thru Friday after Labor Day, buy only until 7, and hardly ever do they actually get to 7 at night in the summer. Because when the food runs out, they close up. I've been a voracious foodie and food-vacationer for over a decade --- closing early isn't a reason to complain. This is Maine. No one is closing to try and garner some PR excitement about selling out early. They just do sell out early, because they are that good. So come summertime, have yourself a lunchtime swim and a 4:00 dinner, and take some leftovers home for later. And then pat yourself on the back for choosing a fantastic food over the convenience of getting to eat whenever you want of course, there's always Taco Bell for that!
