El Charro
"Delia Martin is the woman who started it all. She’s been delighting us with authentic Mexican cuisine, including her family’s original Puffy Taco, for decades. Our menu is full of original recipes from Delia’s parents, Rosalio and Consuelo Rendon. In 1971, Delia and her husband George Marty Martin, took over the first 8-tabled restaurant in Fraser, Michigan. It wasn’t long before the demand for the Puffy Taco forced El Charro to expand, and then relocate from that tiny restaurant, to our current location on 14 Mile Road, where we tripled in size. Now, here we are – three restaurants and millions of Puffy Tacos later!"

If you are looking for REAL Mexican food this is definitely not the place to go. This is basically pricier Taco Bell with servers. The salsa was flavorless, the chips were cold, the puffy tacos are salty and everything else was just O.K.. That really basically sums it up. That said, service was good and the restaurant itself was clean.
Walked in for lunch got a table right away. Waitress was on top of everything perfectly. Food showed up maybe 10 min after ordering I got the puffy tacos I hear they are known for. They are good but in my opinion not better that mexican town establishments. They are fun to try think kind of like I more puffy and soft piece of pita bread but better. Beans were ok needed some seasoning same with the rice. All and all decent place to go and I would say try the puffy tacos once they are a good novelty but I wouldn't think they would be the main attraction Parking: Big lot out back
No pinatas, more like Aztec design. Spacious dining rooms. Have been going to them in Frasier since they first started 50 years ago as a single store front. Love their patented puffy taco. Now I drive over 50 miles to go there and it's worth it. Kid-friendliness: Definately. Parking: Definitely. Beautifully landscaped with multiple lots & easy access from corner streets. Wheelchair accessibility: Yes, Several handicapped parking areas. Large covered porch walkway with wheelchair ramps in 3 directions. Beautiful spacious bathrooms with high-tech, handicap accessible sinks. *See photo above.
I drive regularly 2x a month from Ann Arbor to Fraser or St Clair Shores to pick Up the “puffy taco” for me and my friends! If you don’t know it’s 2.5/3 hours round trip. There is not a better taco, or SALSA outside of Mexico. These are SO DELICIOUS. THANK YOU EL CHARRO! Ps service is ALWAYS GREAT, I have never had a messed up order.
All star ratings are for the bathroom, not the establishment. Holy cow these sinks! Look at them! Soap, water, air dryer... I love this set up. It's possibly the best sink I've ever seen in my life. 2 urinals without a divider for all you meat peakerz. 2 stalls that are pretty much their own room. The bathrooms are tucked down what feels like a nice sound proof hallway. This is premier bathroom living. You could have jalapeños and chorizo and not have to be self conscious.
Our server, Shaun W, was amazing. He was friendly, polite and a pleasure to be waited on by. The manager was amazing when it came to gluten free options and offering to check labels if needed. A huge plus was they have a separate gluten free menu!
Alright, so positives first. Staff is incredibly friendly and attentive even during peak hours. The restaurant was packed and we were seated quickly. Decor is pleasant and inoffensive, and acoustics are good to hear yourself speak. Seating is comfortable. Wait times at peak hours are as expected. Price point is 20 per person. 30 with drinks and appetizers. Positives done. Flavors are bland. Put plainly, this Mexican fusion has a flavor pallet that can be described as "Mexican for retired white pallets." The guacamole needed lime, salt, some pepper. Queso has decent flavor though the cheese choice reminds me of pimento without the olives, with a bit of poblano. The salsa was almost flavorless and was better mixed with the queso. The refried beans were watery to the point of being inedible. The poblano pepper was overcooked to the point that it lost much of its heat and all its firmness. To their credit they don't screw up red sauce but honestly how do you do that? The ingredients are themselves excellent quality. Good cheese, good meats. But it lacks the cumin, the oregano, and the HEAT that you expect. It doesn't need to be sweat inducing but a little Chilli powder wouldn't hurt. For the price, if you want serious Mexican, you will be disappointed. If you want good quality, but low flavor Mexican with very little variety of options fine if you always order the same dish., it will be a better alternative to proper Mexican in the area. Vegetarian options: Vegetarian options are available. But as you'd expect, pinto beany Parking: Parking on both sides is ample. Be aware that there is parking on both sides. Wheelchair accessibility: A person with a walker comfortably navigated the floor behind me during the meal. They seem capable of handling wheelchair needs well Dietary restrictions: They were assiduous in being aware of food allergies when informed.
First time here. Very big place with lots of room around the tables. Your not crammed in like other places. Service is very efficient and friendly. I had the Mexican sandwich and it was very good. Lots of very tasty beef and cheese. It's big enough I'm having the other half for lunch today. I will go back to try the fajitas.Food: 5/5
We just celebrated my Grandma's 80th birthday here and it was beyond perfect. Our waiter was AMAZING. FAST & EFFICIENT. I do apologize to the party waiting at the door for us to leave. We should have moved faster. Thank you management for not getting an attitude with us for our delay. You were all WONDERFUL. 10/10 would recommend.
So So Good!! My friends are regulars at this restaurant. so they took me just before Christmas. Amazing Shredded Beef Tacos!! The bartender was absolutely wonderful, wish I got his name to give him some recognition. Cannot wait to return
