About Non-profit professional association of translators and interpreters of British Columbia Story The Society of Translators and Interpreters of British Columbia (STIBC) was incorporated in 1981 as a non-profit professional association. Mission The mission of the Society of Translators and Interpreters of British Columbia is to promote the interests of translators and interpreters and to serve the public by applying a Code of Ethics that all members are bound to comply with and by setting and maintaining high professional standards through education and certification. Products The Society confers the status of Certified Member on translators and interpreterswho have demonstrated that their professional skills meet a level of competency established by CTTIC. Language professionals who wish to join the Society must pass an admission examination that assesses their translation or interpreting skills or, alternatively, be admitted upon evaluation of their credentials and experience. If successful, candidates are granted Associate Members status with the Society. Members of STIBC agree to abide by the Society's Code of Ethics, and pay annual dues. Associate members are encouraged to take the national certification examination, administered and evaluated on a national basis by CTTIC, to become Certified members.
