About Westcoast Women's Clinic is one of the first physician-based clinics in British Columbia to be fully dedicated to hormone health and wellness. It was co-founded in 2001 by Dr. Bal Pawa and Dr. Nishi Dhawan. Both are specially trained in hormonal medicine Story Our approach is simple and very thorough. First we take the time to fully understand all the factors that contribute to your current health situation, and use state-of-the-art testing to identify potential hormonal imbalances. Based on the results of our assessment and medical testing, we create an individualized treatment program that addresses all aspects of your health - body, mind and lifestyle - to alleviate symptoms, correct imbalances, restore vitality and prevent more serious health problems in the future. Treatment plans are 12 months long and typically include bio identical hormone replacement therapy, natural supplements, stress management, nutrition and exercise. Over the course of the year, we monitor your progress to ensure you are achieving your health goals, and educate you to make better health choices in the future. Patients who adhere to their treatment plans see the best and fastest results. Mission GUIDING PRINCIPLES Every patient is an individual and will be treated as such. We treat the whole person body, mind, spirit, and lifestyle. We strive to stay at the forefront of midlife and hormonal health. We blend conventional medicine and clinically tested natural therapies. Education is a key component to our treatment plans. Products Health Plan: We go far beyond treating the symptoms of hormonal imbalance and offering "one size fits all" solutions. We look at the body as a whole and create individual treatment plans that address all aspects of your well-being - physical, nutritional, emotional, spiritual and lifestyle. We also educate you, to help you make informed choices and prevent more serious health problems in the future. Your Personal Health Plan is designed for one full year. Sticking to the plan and being proactive about your lifestyle changes will generate noticeable results. After the first year, you may choose to renew your plan for additional years as needed. Your Personal Health Plan includes: Initial Consultation - This visit includes a comprehensive assessment and examination. One of our physicians will review your medical history, assess your health risks, discuss your main concerns, outline preventative strategies, and discuss a management plan for you. You will then meet with the Patient Educator who will integrate the physicians reccomendations, educate you on individual lifestyle modifications, and create a customized program for you. She will answer any questions you may have and explain the hormone test. Approx 1.75 hours. Hormone Test - We use the gold standard in hormone testing, a 24-hour urine test. This state-of-the-art technology will provide the most comprehensive assessment of your hormones, thyroid and adrenal gland function, and determine how well your liver metabolizes hormones. Results Appointment - Your doctor will analyze the results and meet with you to determine the best course of action for symptom management, lifestyle modification, and wellness. The Patient Educator will then discuss implementation of these reccomendations; educate you on specific lifestyle modifications; explain any supplements you have been suggested; and give you appropriate resources to enhance your understanding. Approx 1.25 hours. Regular Check-ups - You'll meet with your doctor every 3 months to review your progress with your health and lifestyle goals, symptoms, supplements and medications. Additional appointments may also be made to review diagnostic test results or if you are experiencing symptoms that require medical attention. Educational Support - Our Hormone Health Seminars and Integrated Health Workshops are an important and empowering part of your Personal Health Plan. Please ensure you attend both of these valuable workshops. Educational Binder - This is an excellent resource filled with information on all midlife health issues, as well as specific handouts regarding your particular risk factors and lifestyle needs. You will also receive copies of all lab results and diagnostic tests. Education is an integral part of the care provided at Westcoast Women's Clinic. Our Hormone Health Seminar and Integrated Heath Workshops are attended by all patients, as well as by women within the community who would like to improve their health. We also have an excellent selection of books, guides and pamphlets on women's health for use within the clinic. Signature Series Hormone Health Seminars - held monthly Led by female physicians. Included in the Annual Personal Health Plan. Covers bio-identical hormone therapy, mind body medicine, adrenal and thyroid health, how to interpret hormone testing, and medical information on midlife health issues.
