About Glen Cairn Cooperative Preschool is a cooperative run by parents, led by experienced teachers using an education model based on children learning through play, with an emphasis on creativity. We have 3 classes for children aged 2.5 to 4 years. Story Programs Glen Cairn Co-Operative Preschool has three classes, each with 24 spaces. Two-Morning Program Tuesday and Thursday mornings from 9:00 am to 11:30 am Ages 2.5-4 years Includes a healthy snack $145/month Optional Kindergarten Readiness Lunch $40/month Three-Morning Program Monday, Wednesday and Friday mornings from 9:00 am to 11:30 am Ages 3-4 years Includes a healthy snack $170/month Optional Kindergarten Readiness Lunch $60/month Three-Afternoon Program Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday afternoons from 12:45 pm to 3:15pm Ages 3-4 years Includes a healthy snack $170/month To register your child, please email (glencairnpreschool@bellnet.ca) or phone the school (613-831-3318). The registrar will contact you to answer your questions, talk about the school and confirm whether there are spaces available. Registration packages are emailed to parents and can be printed at home and returned to the school. For your child’s registration to be confirmed, registration packages must be complete and contain the following: ◾all completed forms ◾a cheque for the $50 registration fee ◾10 post-dated cheques dated September 1st through June 1st (tuition) ◾a post-dated cheque for $90 dated June 1st (fundraising deposit) ◾a photocopy of your child’s immunization record ◾a police record check for all duty parents (can be submitted at the start of school year) If your child is placed on the waiting list, your registration fee will not be deposited until a space becomes available and your child’s enrollment is confirmed. All programs run from September to June. Children attending the preschool are automatically registered for the full year. If parents wish to withdraw their child from the preschool, 30 days written notice must be given to the school registrar. Written notice must be received by the first day of a month (e.g., October 1st) to be considered effective for the 1st day of the following month (e.g., November 1st). Mid-month withdrawals will not be accepted. If a child is withdrawn from the school after April 1st, no refunds will be given. Dates Registration opens in late February/early March of each year for the following September. Returning students have a priority registration period in early February. Registration is on-going throughout the year as spots become available. Wait lists are maintained by the Registrar. Mission Our goal is to ensure each child has a positive and rewarding preschool experience. We utilize music, crafts and play to help children develop socially, emotionally, physically and intellectually. Your child will learn to cooperate with others, make friends, understand difference, share thoughts, share toys and take pride in their own unique accomplishments. The classroom is set up to encourage children to play and experience different activities through the school day. There are play stations set up with different activities, crafts, textures, toys, etc. that allow the children to all have a turn in a natural rotation – moving from one play area to another. Learning though play helps the children develop an awareness of their capabilities and fosters social, emotional, creative, physical and intellectual development. The preschool has an outstanding gross motor activity room filled with large play/climbing equipment that allows the children to really exert some energy and learn to cooperate with others.
