About The Chatham-Kent Black Historical Society is home to the Black Mecca Museum, in the Downtown Area of Chatham Story Located inside the JG Taylor Community Centre - also known as the WISH Centre: The Chatham-Kent Black Historical Society, a Non-Profit Organization is dedicated to the preservation and promotion of the history of Chatham-Kent’s Black Community and their influence across North America. Our organization aims to educate the residents of Chatham-Kent and visitors about the legacy left by the early Black pioneers and refugees who helped to build the city. The Chatham-Kent Black Historical Society will continue to promote the Chatham-Kent areas most important and prominent Black Histories. Our museum was last renovated and redesigned in 2005; self-guided or walking tours are available. The exhibit includes special interest artifacts, audio-interactive figures of prominent Blacks of early Chatham and a wide range of primary and secondary resources. If you are looking to book a Group Weekend Tour please contact us to set it up. Depending on availability and a "Guarantee of Appearance" we can make it work for your group.
