About We reclaim old barns throughout the Midwest and 'upcycle' them into trays, tables, doors, walls, shelves and benches.. Story "Reclaiming a Piece of American Heritage One Barn at a Time" Barnwood Trays was started in 2012 by Dan Vollmer as a project to upgrade the floors for his wife Joni. After realizing the wood was not quite right for this project, the carpenter in Dan took over and the first tray was created.
