Looking at all the wonderful reviews and wanting to support local, I decided to give this place a try. However, my husband and I were utterly disappointed. I usually don't like giving bad reviews. Instead, I will just not return to the restaurant. However, this experience was pretty terrible so I thought the details should be known. 1. Ramen - the egg cut into halves was cold in the middle. It wasn't pleasant but I thought it was no big deal so I just poured soup over it to warm it up. 2. The bamboo steamer basket reeked of cigarette smoke. I am pretty sure the cook was smoking in the kitchen while cooking. 3. The dumpling skin was dry and rubbery. The effect you get when you pop frozen food into the microwave. 4. Jasmine tea - First there was no price on the menu but I gathered it wouldn't be free. We were served lukewarm tea. I asked for it to be replaced but it came back the same. When I was going to pay, the server told me that the kettle wasn't working. Then I saw my bill and I was charged $4.51 pretty expensive! for a pot of tea that came without hot water. I politely asked if the charge could be remove because I would have changed my order if I knew the kettle wasn't working. She said she didn't have the authority to do it. 5. Lastly, when I was there, there was only another couple before us. Even then, service was extremely slow. Maybe we were just unlucky. However, it definitely ruined our evening, especially when we were expecting something totally different.
Feel very lucky to have this place so close to home. Garlic cucumber salad, panfried lamb dumpling and shrimp wonton soup. AmazingFood: 5/5
Amazing dumplings, likely the best in town. Great prices and super fast service. The basic pork dumplings are the best. They opened up again after a two year hiatus. Still incredible as ever.
I’m not typically a review person but I had to write this one. I’ve ordered from East Coast Dumpling House once before and it was when I had the flu and just really needed some soup, I ordered their miso ramen and it was amazing. Tonight I ordered their signature ramen, a spring roll and steamed bun to share with my partner and this time, not being sick, I could actually taste properly and was blown away. My only complaint was that I didn’t order more lol. The pork was so good and everything was truely amazing.
Love the dumplings here. On the last visit we tried their Chinese fried bread - not on the menu, but on their special board. It's fun to try something different and the flavours of the bread were unlike anything else I've ever tried -sweet and salty and kind of difficult to describe - almost as if a donut was made into french toast. And that staff is so sweet. The prices are great too.
Ramen is amazing here, the best I have ever had in whole NS. Dumplings are very tasty and everything tastes very fresh.
Fantastic food. Easily the nicest bowl of ramen that I've had from a halifax area eatery. Nice rich broth with copious noodles. Not sure in the noodles were made in house or not but they certainly could have been. Excellent flavour and texture. Definently better ramen than a business that will go nameless but purports to specialize in ramen. The dumplings are, unsurprisingly, excellent. It would be nice if they offered more dipping sauces. I hope more people give this place a try so that it doesn't dissapear.
First time trying dumplings..it was so yummy...cozy little place..clean dinning area...fair size selection of menu items...it's a must try from me.
Delicious! It's a small restaurant where seating area is concerned. Very clean and brightly coloured. We ordered vegetarian spring rolls to share, the vegetarian steamed dumplings based on the server's suggestion. She was informative and helpful. My dining companion ordered a chicken soup and we tried brown rice tea. While we were there a family group of around 8 people came and they were served with the same quick efficiency that we enjoyed. Judging by the amount of takeaway orders that were picked up in the time that we were there, it's a popular food choice. We're definitely going back.
The dumplings are good, though the broth for the noodle soup is bland. The main problem is that they haven't figured out their takeout process properly yet... they seem to prioritize sit-down customers so people coming for takeout wait a long time. They told me 20-25 minutes so I left and came back but then ended up waiting around an additional 15-20... and then it turned out they got my order slightly wrong to boot. I'll eat their food again but either go for a sit-down meal or call my takeout order in WELL ahead of time.
