Dupratis is famous for their doubles $2.75. The bara at Dupratis is super soft but also has a chewy elasticity to it, almost melting into the chana but doesn’t disintegrate. There’s just enough of the chickpeas for bite and plenty of sauce that I eventually had to switch to a knife and fork to enjoy the normally handheld eat. While we asked for it to be a medium spicy level, it must have been made at the fullest as there was quite the kick, yet still tolerable once tamarind sauce was added to counteract the heat. After the pillowy double, the crispy saheena $4.85 was a wonderful contrast with its flakey layers encapsulating a thick spinach mixture. The menu describes this breakfast staple as a fritter, but the layers remind me of phyllo, except even crispier. Imagine a deep-fried phyllo wrapped spinach pie, it’s sinfully good. My friend explains a Trinidadian stew chicken $14.25 is unlike other stews I may have had previously. It begins with a well caramelized sugar base that gives it a rich colour as well as a slightly sweet undertone. The sugariness isn’t overly pronounced rather adding an interesting flair to the still savoury stew. This dish would be a hit for those who like things like root beer pork. The callaloo was the perfect side, giving it an extra layer of silkiness thanks to the okra used with the veggies, so lovely when mixed with the rice. If anything, I just wish the stew chicken had more spice as despite being ordered medium there wasn’t an ounce of heat. Visiting at lunch does mean many dishes aren’t ready, such as the Trini BBQ chicken or lamb and curry duck. After cycling through various items on the menu, we finally settled on the boneless curry goat $15.80 for the large, which arrives with a choice of rice or roti and with the roti a choice of daal or paratha versions. I’m glad my friend went with the flakey paratha as its many crevices were perfect for soaking in the thin curry sauce. The curry was fine but a bit timid for my tastes - if anything, it was the ultra hot layered roti that stole the show.
My son and I came here…ordered fries and chicken wings for him and dhal and rice and curry goat for me with a bottle of water and Corona…it wouldve been nice to get our drinks while we waited for our food, but that did not happen until 20mins later. When my son got his fries and wings, he received no ketchup, plate or napkins. When I received the Curry Goat 10mins later, I was really disappointed…as a Trini born and raised this was by far anything to appreciate, the picture of the goat fat alone proves my point. Only reason I give this place 2 stars is for the front staff who was friendly, the music and the cleanliness.
I ordered 4 doubles, and a corn soup. They said 25 minutes I waited an hour. When I got the food the flour for the doubles was still raw and the Chana was frozen, the corn soup wasn’t even corn soup they just mixed everything they had in one container and gave it to me. Not authentic trini food at all. I’m surprised they’re still open for business.
My fault for coming here a second time. The first time, I got a doubles. It was average. When I was asking the lady questions about the menu, she was walking away at the same time which is unprofessional. On the 2nd visit, got the bake and saltfish pictured. The fried bake tasted stale and old even though it seemed freshly fried. The saltfish was the worst part. It had a strong frozen taste and was chewy and watery. There will be no 3rd visit. I've already wasted my money here twice before.
Ordered two jerk chicken rotis. We have never tasted roti like this before. Completely inedible. What part of Trinidad they making this kind of roti?
8/10 ordered doubles and bbq chicken. To start, the portion of the bbq is enough for 2 lol nice and big with fries, salad, coleslaw. doubles were fresh, super flavourful and light. First time, will def come again:
I have been to a couple of other Drupatis locations without any issues. Unfortunately, the young East Indian girls managing this place are out of their depth. The food they serve is not fresh. I ordered boneless curry chicken with rice. I was served cold pieces of chicken, with hot curry sauce. In addition, the rice was clearly over a day old. It was hard and cold outside of where the hot curry sauce was liberally poured over top. The salad served on the side consisted of shredded iceberg lettuce with one very sad looking slice of tomato. No dressing, no flavour. Fix up!
We dined in at Drupatis in Vaughan today. We ordered doubles, pholourie, and the jerk chicken roti. It was absolutely delicious! The restaurant is beautiful, lots of seating available and it is very clean. *****The service was amazing*****The staff really take pride in what they do. Well done! Highly recommended. We'll be back
The place had great music, and the food tasted pretty good. It was so slow. On one hand, it felt like every dish was being made from scratch which is great, but a single lunch took about 35 minutes to get, and the place wasn't that busy. I take it some people had to wait a lot longer because they were asking for money back and leaving angry. Not a great place to get a quick lunch, still a decent place for lunch.
We went for our first dinner here! Wow. This place is clean, friendly, has delicious food and even gave us a sample to try since it was our first time there. my hubby had bone in curry goat, and i had bone out curry chicken. if Caribbean food isn't your thing, they also have Asian dishes which we will try next time! Affordable and oh so good!!! we will definitely be coming back.
