I've come to this hospital several times for lab work, tests, and also emergent issues. While wait times at the ER can be long, I have been treated respectfully and compassionately by every doctor, nurse, and technician I have interacted with. Even in the middle of the night they are thorough and professional. I do find when I go in for blood work and tests that are pre-scheduled, the wait is much shorter. The people are a 5 star for me and the wait time in the ER a 3.
My wife has pneumonia. We waited about 15 minutes outside triage. They admitted her right away and the care has been amazing. All the people working here are very professional. I’ve been here the whole time so I can speak for all of this personally. Not everyone’s experience will be the same depending on the current conditions in our hospital system but my overall experience is positive.
Sunday- I came in at 9 pm since I had been experiencing shortness of breath and chest pains. Triage was done followed by ECG 15 mins later. The nurse then said they will call me once the doctor views the report. 12:50 am and no follow up, no call, no status update. Nothing has moved much in the ER. I am here with the same set of patients except two one of them being an old couple. It's unfortunate that there is not even a follow up provided. A realistic expectation of what time we can expect to be seen. This is when I went to the receptionist, since there was no nurse in sight. Asked to get a status update, since my condition was still the same and it was getting extremely uncomfortable. To say that the receptionist has absolutely no empathy is an understatement. With a condescending tone I was informed that the shift changed at 12 and we will be see when the doctor is ready and it depends on the emergency. When I politely explained that it's been 4 hours and the breathlessness is painful, I simply would like to get a realistic expectation of the wait time, she said it's could be 10-14 hours sometime, and mine has only been 4! Absolutely no empathy, no offer to get checked by a nurse, nothing, except a stern look on her face. 1:05 am- I along with 3 other patients got called into the inner waiting room. 2.13 am- I am still waiting to get checked by a doctor.nThe frustration continues. And a deeply disappointed feeling at the way I was treated by the receptionist. Noone should be treated that way. Especially patients who are already anxious and probably scared.nUpdate: was seen by doc at 2:55 am. Since then it's been a battery of tests. The nurses were very kind, and so was the doctor.
I came to George Dumont with my daughter after being told by maple to have her seen in person. I explained to the triage nurse elderly lady with short dyed red hair and glasses. She refused to listen to me or even look at me while I was explaining the maple doctor, who believed my daughter had pneumonia and recommended having her lungs listened to. This nurse wouldn't even listen to her lungs, was very rude to my daughter, and didn't even acknowledge me. My daughter is 16 years old and this was her first experience at the emergency department. unfortunately, she left feeling unheard and uncared for. Iam left wondering if it is because we are English speaking.
My mother was brought into hospital by ambulance in February. She had the best care. Nurses and doctors were very fast friendly and thorough when she arrived to the Er. She was diagnosed with blood clots on both lungs. She spent 2 weeks in hospital and had great care. Thank you to all the nurses and doctors as well as the rest of the staff who took such great care of her.
