Douglas County - WIC office

The staff is wonderful and very nice, don't get me wrong. But, I came in to renew my WIC today and I was declined because I make too much income. I live in a home with my 1 year old son, my husband, and my mother. I am the only one working. I pay for a car payment, mortgage, utilities, insurance, property tax, food for the adults and my son. I don't get food stamps either. So by the time all the bills are paid. I literally have 10.00 to my name and of course it goes to my son. I thought this program was to help women who are struggling with providing food to their children, which in my situation, I seriously need the help. I know people say this all the time, but I find it to be unfair that some people CHOOSE not to work and know how to work the government system to get food for themselves and their children for free. For most- they will get these benefits forever. I do choose to work to provide a roof for my family and to provide transportation to get to my job. I don't have extra expenses for food. I believe the NECCISSARY bills that has to be paid has to be considered for assistance also, because the amount of money that I make doesn't tell my story. The bills and expenses involved for keeping my family breathing should be considered also. If that was looked at, you will see that I have NO MONEY. I am a woman who needs help. Help me.

The staff is very friendly and understanding and very helpful .
