Amazing place with amazing food that I'll need to come back again and have very soon! Staff is super friendly and attentative and we scored free parking right in front. From the daily specials menu we got: the Sakura Onigiri - it was soo pretty and delicious; and the Special Ramen Salad that had stinging nettles and fiddleheads! Never had ramen salad before, but it was tasty and I loved the chewiness of the noodles. For our mains, we ordered Omu-Rice with Hayashi Sauce and Jingisukan BBQ Lamb. The omu-rice was sooo good!! The best I've had in Vancouver so far. Had to try the lamb dish as I've never had lamb at a Japanese restaurant before. Initially I thought it looked dry, but it wasn't and instead was packed with flavor! You'd think we'd stop here, but the Japanese Whiskey Bread Pudding sounded too interesting to pass up. And it did not disappoint! Having the cool whipped cream in the same bite as the hot banana bread with the whiskey cream sauce was just the cherry on top of an amazing dinner. We loved everything we ordered and can't wait to try the other items on the menu!!
Had some time to myself and wanted a spot in Vancouver to reflect and gather my thoughts for the day and hopefully have a good meal. Did a bit of online research and found Dosanko. It had me at Beef Belly Katsu. Upon further review, I found that the owners have a connection to Edmonton which resonates with me. So it was a for sure go to check this spot out. It is a bit out of the way but in my opinion worth it. It checked off all the boxes - the sandwich was delicious and while the cost may seem pricey - I found the quality of the meat and the quantity left me full I did not eat anything until lunch. So no issues with the cost at all imo. The service and staff was very polite and made me feel I was in Japan. The restaurant, at least on the day I was there, allowed me time to escape the day to day and simply enjoy my food, tea, and thoughts. Not sure when I will be back but it will be in my thoughts for sure!
Great family owned restaurant. The owner is also the head chef - trained in French cuisine and later fell in love with Japanese food and culture. They offer and very interesting style of Japanese comfort food. Nice atmosphere, especially when the place fills up! I will definitely go back to order the Cheese Crusted Oyako again!Recommended dishesCheese Crusted Oyako
Great Japanese restaurant which serves delicious dishes. You don't come here for the sushi, but for more hardy dishes like Japanese curry, tonkatsu and beef belly sandwiches. The serving sizes are ample and the presentation quite nice. The interior is cosy with the brick wall and wood furniture. Friendly service, which in total, had us have a great evening! The table side Omi-rice was a treat, but my favorite was the mackerel! Only drawback, it closes early, at 9pm, good thing the brewery district is close by.
Food was delicious here, we randomly picked this restaurant on Google map, and had the juicyest burger ever tried special of the day menchi kastu burger and the omu rice, eggs are so so soft. We are very satisfied and very full. Will try their dessert next time for sure!
My first time dining at Dosanko and won't be my last! Though not in the best location but the food is worth to come. It's during the pandemic and happy to see table are distanced comfortably and staff wearing mask. We came with couple for friends and ordered some great dishes! You won't be disappointed with any of the dishes here. You need to come hungry! We ordered: - Omu-rice: it was so mesmerizing and satisfying watching the staff cut open the egg omelette. This was by far our favourite dish as we added hayashi sauce. - Beef Belly Katsu Sandwich - wow! The beef belly was substantial and so melt in your mouth flavourful and decadent. I would definitely order this again. - Zangi - The chicken was super crispy and quite forward with garlic and ginger. We finished every piece quite quickly. - Ling Cod Fish Katsu - The fish was battered perfectly with a thin slice of ling cod. I really enjoyed the salad paired with the fish. - Calpico Panna Cotta - You can definitely taste the Calpico and was very nice and light at the end of a delicious meal. Great service and great food!
Dosanko provided a nice, calming and cozy atmosphere for a girls’ lunch on Friday. We ordered the Beef Belly Sando 5/5 which included a touch of mustard that balanced out the richness so well! We also tried the Omu-Rice with Hayashi Sauce 4.5/5 – our server prepared this dish for us by slicing the egg perfectly, and drizzling sauce over top. I was pleasantly surprised by the vegetables that were hidden in the rice. Though the sauce was a little bit too salty for my taste, otherwise this dish was an experience that I’d recommend. Our server also gave us sharing dishes. We were too full to order dessert, but that just means we’ll have to return soon. Thank you to the servers and chef for checking in on us during our meal!
Came with a friend from out of town. It was absolutely amazing. We ordered the beef belly sandwich, the omu rice, and the mushroom pasta. The sandwhich was out of this world. Flavourful and just a pleasant experience, an awesome blend of flavours. The omu rice was such a blend of great flavours. The egg had a strong creamy or cheese after flavour, but was delicious. The mushroom pasta was a pleasant surprised. A balance of favours, not too rich. The noodles were fresh and perfect. The orange wine pairing worked well.
Great atmosphere, delicious food, and wonderful service. A bit higher priced but the quality was good and the portions were solid. House made soda is fantastic. The fried onigiri crispy and great, curry delicious and filling, and tonkatsu well presented and prepared. If this place were over in Mt. Pleasant it'd surely be packed all the time. It's sad to see how far this area of Powell has slipped, and it was genuinely uncomfortable walking from Waterfront to Dosanko. Definitely drive or come from the east instead. That said, aside from the condition of the surrounding area, I love Dosanko and can't wait to try more.
We had THE best time at Dosanko celebrating our anniversary. The food was super fresh and so delicious. Service was outstanding and so very friendly. Always there when we needed them, but never too much or pushy. I highly recommend visiting Dosanko - it’s truly a highlight!
