I am thoroughly confused with the 4.5 rating. I ordered a chicken rice platter. I requested the tabouleh and got dry chopped parsley with a couple of olives. I had to add my own lemon juice and olive oil to it just to make it barely palatable. The hummus was bland and runny. Like completely devoid of any flavor. The chicken was so so. A bit dry and no flavor. The garlic sauce was not garlicky at all. The hot sauce was...you guessed it, not hot at all. Seriously, this place is not good.
Not really sure why the rating for this place is so high, maybe there’s inconsistency with their quality because my experience definitely fell short of its current 4.5 stars. I ordered a chicken shawarma platter - the portion size was so small since the content just barely filled up the container. The meat was extremely dry and rubbery, which made my mouth hurt from chewing and some pieces were very hard and sharp. Also for some reason they used jasmine rice, which didn’t really complement other items in the platter. The hummus was extremely bland, it literally just tasted like mashed chickpeas with nothing else. Their garlic sauce was good though but they were very stingy with it, I used it up in just two bites.
I've seen good reviews about Donair Star and I always see a line, so I decided to check it out. I got a beef super wrap and a large chicken rice platter. The veggies were fresh, the meat was mildly spiced and portion sizes were decent. The hummus that came with the platter was terrible. It tasted like watery blended chickpeas. It could have used some lemon and garlic. The menu lists a few different wrap options e.g Hawaiian, Lebanese, etc but no description of what the difference is. If you are looking for flavourful food, try one of the other shawarma places around. If you like mildly flavoured food, this is the place for you.
It is the best donair spot in New Westminster! I often come to Donair Star because it's closer to my house that I can just walk and it's more better than other fast food restaurant out there like McDonald's. Come and visit Donair Star and try it for yourself, you won't regret buying it and coming back again and again. THE BEST DONAIR IN NEW WESTMINSTER PERIOD
I am not sure why this place is rated 4.5. The worst donair plate I had and bad service as well. Their rice is “just” white rice without anything added. Chicken was so dry I thought I was eating chips. Sauce was not very flavourful. Also server argued I ordered something different when radio volume inside the store was loud. Not impressed.
I had super chicken donair/shawarma and it was so delicious. Friendly staff and the price was good. I love their patio area. Definitely I’ll come back.
How this place has 4.5 stars is beyond me. The chicken was dry, the rice was sticky not basmati, no dressing in the salad, the hummus was runny and watered down, as was the garlic sauce. If you think this place is good, go to Zaaki up the street, that is what shawarma should taste like. On top of it, the server/order taker was rude. Place is a 0/5.
Not really impressed by the taste. Tasted greasy, blend and way too much sauce. Price was right and that’s all about it. I am Still looking for the perfect donair spot in Burnaby but I guess will have to wait to find one .
Only 1x I had a problem but other than that they have the best food an portions are huge so you can share if u want. I would give 9.99 outta a 10Food: 5/5
Let's just say you go here for Donair. It's the best Donair on 12th. Not much of a sit down restaurant but grab it and go sit at a park. It's great!Food: 4/5
