I came from out of state to do a Penguin Mingle here at the zoo. My husband and I had some time to walk around the zoo beforehand and check out the exhibits. Unfortunately we came the day after Christmas, which was when it was 6 degrees outside. We didn't get to see many animals but the polar bear looked happy! Otherwise, the Penguin Mingle was great and although it's very pricey I have no regrets about doing it. It was a very good program that I recommend for any serious penguin fans. The Polk Conservation center is absolutely gorgeous and very fun to walk through. Lots of penguins!

We visited the Detroit Zoo on an extremely cold day. However, we were visiting in town and we wanted to show support for anything Detroit. The front staff did not seem very engaged in greeting the few customers that trickled through the doors (they charged me full price for parking $14.00 even though I parked on the street). Due to the weather the animals were either asleep or indoors however, we were able to look at a good amount of reptiles and we even saw a beautiful peacock strutting around the grounds like it owned the place. The workers inside were very friendly and I can tell they thought we were crazy visiting the zoo on this cold day. We still had a good time. I plan on going back when the summer months are here. In addition, the scenery was beautiful we were able to take pictures in front of a beautifully decorated Christmas tree. I spent about $40.00 -for two adults, a child, and parking. My nephew loved it and that's all that mattered to me. A beautiful place to walk around and check out the scenery -when the weather is nice and inviting. I appreciate you for taking time out to read my review I hope it is informative.

Gorgeous day. Still chilly thou. Butterflies were on the move! Gorillas just ate. They were indoors and active. Polar bears were topside missing the snow! The rest rooms were very clean!! Its a great place for a brisk walk.

Don't know that i can say anything about this place that has not already been said. I have been going here for 47 years and still love it. We have a membership so my wife and I use it as a place to get in a walk. There is always a new thing to see and over the last few years there have been significant renovations to the already plentiful animal exhibits. Great place for the family. You can take a picnic, ride the train, watch polar bears and seals swim over your head, get seasick in the new penguin house, get up close to the otters, search for the non existent beavers, check out poisonous frogs and snakes, and watch the giraffes roam Egypt (which I have never figured out considering giraffes are sub Saharan). The natural feel to the exhibits makes this one of the better zoos that we have ever visited. If you are a visitor to the Detroit area I highly recommend and if you are from the Detroit area and have never gone what are you waiting for?!!

Definitely visit the Detroit Zoo if you ever travel here. If you live here then it's not anything new. The penguin exhibit is nice. Make sure you go when they are busy, or else most of the cool animals will either be asleep, or just not in sight. Staff here is nice, pretty clean, and not too expensive. We go here at least once a year.
