This place used to be a staple bakery. They made multiple kinds of German pretzels and bread, and many traditional pastries. I wish they would change the name now, as it's moved so far away from it's German roots. Most of the bread is all shaped like grocery store white bread now, and some of the top products of its past like onion bread and bauernbrot they don't know what I'm talking about. I had some spare time on last Friday morning and was in there at 9am, and there was no baking smells at all, there was only one misshapen loaf of rye, and it was already stale the next day. What bakery doesn't smell amazing at 9am? I suspect at least the loaf I bought was day-old bread. I also don't recommend the chocolate marzipan tarts, as it tasted like dry coconut inside, far from moist enough. Sad to see what used to be my favorite bakery become what it is today.
Doesn't smell like a bakery. Hardly any bread on the shelves. Little to no pastries. Not sure if they bake in store or if they outsource. The butter tarts tasted more like sugar pies. Not bad but not a butter tart. The chocolate chip cookie was definitely not a bakery cookie but, more like the cookies you get at a buffet.
A quaint little eatery with affordable prices. The sandwich was quite good, but would have been better if they listened to the customer and added the toppings that I specifically asked for, instead of just adding toppings that they thought would be good, which included foods that I do not like as per why I asked specifically for other toppings listed on the board and not those. I then had to pick and scrape them off. I was a bit disappointed at how bare the bread shelves were and that they did not offer many actual German desserts in their bakery.
Love coming to Der BrotKorb! Great prices and quality food!
Tried 4 of their sweet baked goods. 2 were inedible. Best description - a generic grocery store quality product. I used to buy a lot of baked goods at Der Brotkorb. It is a shadow of what it used to be.
Buns were delicious and I would go back there again for more. And why make judgments? FYI, there are plenty of German born Indian diaspora from Germany residing in Toronto. Try not to judge by outer apperance. They could well be brought up or raised in Deutschland.
Fruit cake was good. Only had the bread and fruit cake. I think it's an OK bakery I've been to better.
Hot chocolate and Danish! So Tasty!
Run by an Indian family. I guess it was originally German and then sold and neglected. The shelves were mostly bare. I tried the breakfast in the cafe but it was pretty bad. Hot chocolate was made from the powder from the dollar store.
The guy there didn't even know what German bread is. All they had is the soft american bread in different colors Germans call Toast. Nothing seemed really fresh.
