Came on a weekday around 4PM with family. The restaurant is very well lit, nice interior and lots of seating space. We did have to wait by the entrance for 10minutes to get seated even though it wasn’t busy at all. Nice that there was hand sanitizer by the front. The dining area itself is very nicely kept, clean and spacious. Washrooms are… not well maintained and VERY dingy. They have a membership that costs $20 I believe that’s good for 2 years and gives you a discount on the dishes. Food came fast, they have changed the menu a bit since I last came but no complaints. I would say the portions are more on the smaller side, so most dishes are probably shareable for 2, maybe 3 people max. The food itself is decent, nothing special but the menu is quite large with items I have never tried/heard of. Overall, decent food at a rather fair price.
My family has been coming here for many years and we recently came to celebrate my dad’s birthday with another family. While all the dishes were decent no major complaints about any particular dish I do feel like the quality has gone down compared to many years ago. For example, the cabbage and glass noodle stir fry which my family always orders used to come piping hot on a sizzling metal plate with egg fried on the plate, but now it just comes in a ceramic dish without the egg. I also didn’t like the duck as much this time it felt drier. Overall, some of the dishes feel a little underwhelming compared to what they were before—at least, I don’t find myself enjoying them as much as I used to. I personally don’t mind the noise and hustle/bustle of the restaurant, but that is definitely something to keep in mind if you’re planning to come here. It can be busy and loud, and be sure to reserve in advance if you can. While I don’t feel that this place is as nice as it was before, I probably would come back, just because they have good variety on their menu and I still do think many of the dishes are to my liking such as some of the soups and the fried filled pancakes we got. It’s not a bad place to try, but they definitely do some dishes better than others. On the whole…a hesitant recommendation.
This is a sit down restaurant and not supposed to be a canteen. We had dinner last night and it was a BAD experience. 3 appetizers were bland and tasteless: black fungus was dry and had no sauce nor flavour; stir-fried yellow fishes must be days old and started to fall apart; the amazing tofu was not amazing at all, let alone it was just taken out from the fridge. However the stir-fried cauliflower and pan-fried pancake were good. The worst part was the noise of the place. We sat at the front and close to the entrance and the cashier. Bad choice of table. The phone rang off the hook and it was LOUD. Not sure why the loud ring tone was necessary since there was always someone at the cashier. Tons of people was lining up to pick up their take outs, pay bills and ask for tables. They were standing almost inside the dinning area instead of in the waiting area. Waitress was busy cleaning tables and the noises of throwing the ceramic dishes into the collecting bin was disturbing to say the least. Throughout the entire 1.5 hours, we couldn’t enjoy a peaceful meals. And of course the bank machine did not allow manual tipping. Worst dinner we had for a long time and would never go back. Mainland restaurants need to pay more attentions to the service, ambiance, washroom and the total dinning experience rather then just concentrate merely on the food.
Went with friends on a Saturday night. Already packed with ppl at 6 pm. No reservations available for table for 4, so we luckily grabbed the last table without waiting. The cuisines were all authentic, mostly featuring Beijing and North China style. The iconic crispy roasted duck was worth trying though we waited for nearly an hour. Cash only and debit card only are the last things i like about dining at Chinese restaurants.
Went there last night and spent about $86 for 3 plates, Peking duck with rice paper, seasoning duck bones, stir fry lamb and spicy cauliflower bowl. Food is good for the taste but -1 star for not accepting VISA/Mastercard payment. They put up a little board in Chinese/English: Canadian debit cards/cash only.
I think the reviews speak for themselves - not a great dining experience. I have no idea why Dayali is so busy and popular despite all its issues. My family and I have eaten here since it opened way back, and it used to be one of our favorite Chinese restaurants. But each time, it gets worse and worse, to the point where we will NOT be returning. First off, the environment is so hectic and not upscale at all. The tables are so close to each other, you're basically back to back with another patron. There are tables randomly placed in the middle of the room with little sense at all. The front is so loud, since they're constantly getting phone calls and writing up bills right beside the tables. There's also always a wait for some reason, we arrived at 5:30 which is quite early for dinner and had to wait 20 minutes. Throughout our whole dinner, there was never a time where there wasn't a crowd of people at the front waiting for their number to be called. The food is the main reason we won't be returning. The flavor is underwhelming. We ordered the squirrel fish, braised eggplant, suan cai yu hot and sour fish soup, and a stir fry beef dish. These are all things that we have tried and enjoyed before, we're not very experimental when it comes to new dishes. It's like they forgot how to make these dishes. The squirrel fish was so sour, this is something that a Beijing-style restaurant should NOT be getting wrong especially for $40. The suan cai yu was another disappointment, as we have ordered this probably 10 times in the past. It tastes like it was made earlier in the day and heated halfway. I like my soup to be piping hot. It was also super sour. The other two dishes were good but it's not hard to get stir fry beef and eggplant right. Please improve. I used to really like this place. But for $100/3 people for such a mediocre experience, I can't see myself returning.
Our guests were happy with the food. The design of the restaurant was clean and modern. However, if the washroom cleaning was improved it would be even better.
Food prices are not increase during pandemic, but food quality is getting worse. The duck is cold, dipping sauce is not proper, guess changed from original sweet duck sauce to disgusting salty one. The worst food is that cumin duck rack, totally not fresh and extremely cold, pretty sure it was cooked yesterday or even longer... Very disappointed, what's wrong with Dayali, giving customer not fresh & yesterday food?
Premium Roasted Duck • Northeast Style Sweet & Sour Clear Noodles Salad • Pea Sprouts in Vegetable Soup & Garlic • • One of the best Peking Duck meal in town with amazing presentation! The duck roasted perfectly without too much fat left underneath the skin. Love that they carved almost all the meat and skin from the duck that we got plenty to wrap into the crepes. We even need to order extra crepes to finish it up. Talking about the crepes, they were paper thin with great texture. As not all the restaurant can make this kind of superb crepes to serve with the Peking Duck. Trust me, I had some ridiculously thick crepes at other restaurants All of the food was so delicious! The clear noodles salad was seasoned perfectly. The pea sprouts was tender and cooked perfectly.
dishes taste were nice, but amount of food was less than expected, we ordered one dish twice, they used different dishware. service a little slow.
