Dawson College is a large, long-established educational institution within Quebec’s network of CEGEPs in Montreal, Quebec, Canada.
After the government of Quebec created the CEGEP system in 1967, Dawson College was the first English-language CEGEP when it opened its doors in the fall of 1969 to some 1,200 students at an abandoned pharmaceutical factory on Selby St. in Westmount. Over the years, as numbers grew higher, Dawson opened several more campuses around Montreal.
In 1988, Dawson moved into its current location at the Mother House of the Congrégation de Notre-Dame on Sherbrooke St. and began closing its other campuses. Finally, in 1997, the original Selby campus was closed.
