Not impressed, especially for the prices being charged. While I understand why restaurants are charging so much more these days, they need to be offering an exceptional atmosphere and service to try and justify their prices, which Dave's Place Restaurant doesn't. Food was adequate, but portions Again, for the prices being charged. were on the small side. Lots of better value eating options available nearby which I'd recommend you try.
What this cozy small town grill may lack compared to large chains is instantly countered by the friendly and attentive family staff. In the best sense, it felt like stepping back in time, and though I don't live anywhere near Bancroft, I felt somehow part of the community while sitting at a table at Dave's Place. I had a late breakfast, happy to know it was still available well into the afternoon at 13:41. I may be of simple taste, but my order was accurate, fast to plate, and flawless.
We drove 4 hours to Bancroft for the Princess Sodalite Mine and a meal. We ended up eating here at Dave's Place because the place I wanted to go was closed for their holidays. Let me tell you, I'm soo glad they were closed and my family got to experience this amazing family run dining experience. The menu is reasonably priced. They have an amazing selection of food. Their waiter was friendly, smiling, attentive, and quick. Our food was served hot fresh off the grill, I mean my ribs were warm to the very last bite. The portions were perfect! Looked like too much to eat, but I ate every last bite! We ordered an adult and child portion of chicken fingers and fries, the kids both said they were THE BEST chicken fingers they had ever had! My daughter ordered the kids chicken and rib platter, devoured it! My love ordered Surf n turf, steak medium rare and tempura shrimp. The steak was tender and cooked perfectly! The shrimp were large, juicy and delicious! The mixed veg served with his meal were phenomenal, one of the best things I have ever tasted. Had I known thats what it was, I would have politely asked to sub coleslaw that was coming with my meal for them. My friend ordered the hot beef sandwich, he inhaled it before I could ask him how it was. He said, "It's absence says it all!" I ordered the rib and wing platter. The ribs there are AMAZING, soo meaty! Not dry, soo tender and juicy, they practically fell off the bone. The wings were perfectly breaded and crispy, perfectly sauced! I'm picky when it comes to coleslaw, theirs is really tasty, super good. And though I said I would have swapped it for the mixed veg, its only because they were so dang GOOD! It was nice because Dave himself came out, to check on everyone. It's such a lovely, welcoming, cozy atmosphere. Thank you for such a wonderful dining experience! Can't wait to return!
My 4th meal here in 24 hours in Bancroft - each one was delicious, cooked fresh and was spot on for price. Not sure what the others are going on about, but I highly recommend this family owned and run local gem. It’s packed every time I’ve been here with lots of people, the staff including Dave, his son Nathan and his nephew have been amazing, made sure we were looked after well and made special efforts to give us a non pork option for breakfast this morning. If you don’t have patience or time to wait for your freshly prepared meal, then do check out the big chain options like Tim Hortons or McDonalds next door. I would hands down come back again and again for Dave’s cooking, I had bruschetta to die for tonight, absolutely great food.
My partner and I both ordered Reuben Sandwiches and coffee. The food was tasty. The price was decent. The service was excellent. I loved all the leaded stained glass fixtures to look at while dining. Gave a warm atmosphere, with a flair of creativity. Parking: Small gravel lot with angled parking that might be more difficult during busy times, however there is some limited street parking as well.
Unassuming and cozy restaurant run by a family. Dave was busy but friendly looking after the back kitchen and serving as waiter, host and cashier. We got the soup of the day cream of potato, which was warm, hearty and plentiful without being too heavy on a mild autumn day. We split a grilled chicken sandwich between the 2 of us, which was nicely grilled and seasoned. Just what we needed for a light and late lunch. The fries were crispy, pipping hot and lightly salted. Prices are very reasonable for the portion size you get, especially these days.
Really unassuming restaurant in Bancroft. Service was great, though I had to wait about 10 minutes extra for my burger to be ready. The family working is really friendly. Menu is good..classic Canadian food. Prices are cheap so and it's really good value. We got the onions rings, burger, and fish and chips. Burger might have been cooked from frozen, but it was fine. It was like Burger King quality id say but was huge and the fries were amazing. Onions rings were delicious and a good portion. The girlfriend loved the fish and chips. Good fish flavor, not too greasy. Overall, 5/5 from me and we will definitely be returning the next time we visit Bancroft. Better than Eagles Nest in my opinion and a better business to support if you want some quick eats instead of Maccas or Subway.
This neat, unassuming place made us a great fish and chip meal outside of regular lunch hours- emphasis on the fries which were not the pre-frozen kind and were very tasty. The owner also made us a delicious fried banana dessert when we expressed a desire for something sweet. Prices were very reasonable for these days.
When we first pulled up we weren't sure. It's a renovated house and looked empty. But we went inside and there was a couple there talking to a young man. They were obviously regulars so we decided to stay. The portions are really good size and the food was fresh and tastey. I would highly recommend this place. For two of us it came to $29. For lunch. You can't beat those kind of prices.
