Date of Visit May 3rdnnComfort Food with a Crunchy Twist! nWe dropped into Cracker Jacks in Thorold for a casual bite, and it delivered that laid-back, local pub vibe we were hoping for. The service was on point—friendly, fast, and super welcoming, which set the tone for a relaxed meal.nWe gave the fried chicken dinner a try, and while it had that crave-worthy golden crunch, it leaned a bit too far into crispy territory with a heavy batter that overpowered the chicken slightly. Still, the flavours were there, and it definitely hits the spot if you're in the mood for that ultra-crunchy comfort.nnThe real standout was the Buffalo Chicken Mac & Cheese—creamy, spicy, and packed with bold flavour. The heat balanced nicely with the richness of the dish, and it felt like a hug in a bowl with a kick.nnAll in all, Cracker Jacks is a solid choice if you're looking for hearty pub classics and good vibes in Thorold. With a few tweaks, that fried chicken could be next-level—we’d definitely be back to try more from the menu and soak in the neighbourhood charm.nnPrices are fair and reasonable – infact, I would dare say comparably cheaper than must places offering similar fare.nnThere is plenty of free onsite parking.nnUnfortunately for us – we got there just as their Karaoke was starting. We did not know this until it was too late. While many people came for the karaoke – we do not enjoy it. So it was a tad loud for us. Personal preference – not a fault of the restaurant’snnOtherwise – this is a pretty cool place, and I would definitely try again.
Food was fantastic! Service was extremely slow at 10pm with only a few of us total. Menu smelt strong of urine.nnWe ordered the Wontons as an appetizer to share. I ordered the Nashville fried chicken sandwich and my boyfriend ordered the steak sandwich as our entrees.nnThe food came out hot, tasted fresh and the portions were great! We left with leftovers.
The food was good and quite enjoyable, but the service could have been better. The staff didn’t seem very friendly or welcoming. Overall, though, it was a good experience.
I will be meeting a friend later but it's still early and there are Yelp reviews to write. I found Cracker Jack's and while the food looks great, I just had a beer and some wifi.nnThe bar area has televisions across the wall, all tuned in to sports though muted this afternoon. Several folks having a pleasant time eating and drinking in the bar area, the dining room and at the outside tables. There's a nice vibe here and I enjoyed my time.
I called the restaurant on Friday afternoon specifically to ask if it was accessible for wheelchair users. The staff member confidently assured me that it was.nnWe drove 35 minute, only to arrive and find no designated accessible parking spot right off the bat. Then, at the entrance, there was no automatic door opener, and to make things worse, both entrance doors had a step, making it completely inaccessible.nnThis experience was not just frustrating, it was infuriating. We wasted valuable time and energy, and more importantly, felt deeply disrespected. Giving false or careless information about accessibility isn’t a minor oversight, it’s a serious failure that impacts real lives.nnThere’s absolutely no excuse for this kind of negligence. A question this important deserves a responsible and accurate answer. You can’t claim to be accessible when you’re clearly not
