Great place to go and camp. It's practically in the middle of nowhere in the BNF but the drive is definitely worth it. We went through bear valley and had a wonderful adventure. We spent 3 nights up there with rain on two of them. The views were incredible and campsites well maintained. Will definitely return in the future. Note: fishing from shore is a joke. Probably better out on the water or near the damn.
Deadwood Reservoir was on my motorcycle route, taking back roads from Horseshoe Bend through Placerville and up to Warm Lake. Cozy Cove is at the south end and is one of several campgrounds on the Reservoir. I did not camp here, but only stopped for a quick break. The water is very low in the Reservoir. It looked like a great campground. Bathroom very well maintained. Campsites very nice and clean. The Dam is just to the north a few miles.
I wanted to go to the mountains, didn't have a destination, but followed the 20 miles of washboard road was pulling our 20' travel trailer took 1 1/2 hours to go the 20 miles! Didn't realize this was mainly a boat and tent campground. Had a hard time getting into a spot with the trailer, but made it work. Very clean campground on a peninsula. Beautiful lake Deadwood Reservoir great for the Trout Angler!
One of the best campgrounds I've ever stayed at! They have wood already cut and stacked near the fire pits at each campsite. Very clean, well worth the $12 per night fee.
Spent 4 days here, very peaceful! It was a long haul but well worth it. If you go bring lots of water, there is a well there but it needs to be rebuilt. It takes about one hundred pumps to fill 5 gallons. If you stop pumping you lose the prime and have to start over.
Very good campground. At the end of a long drive, so not too busy. Metal, Forest Service fire rings, so you can have campfires when the danger is at or below 1. Potable water is available via hand pump. No electricity. Parking is restricted only to campsites, including boat trailer. It is definitely biased towards tent camping. Can accommodate medium sized trailers, but you have to be willing to work at getting them level. If you are bringing a trailer, north route from Warm Lake is probably best. There is a decent little boat ramp here, wide enough for one trailer at a time. Seemed to be sufficient for the number of boats. Great scenery. Lots if froglets. Good, dark sky.
Very beautiful. We were up there during the week, so not many people !
Cozy campgroung is next to the dam which makes it nice to fish from if u have no boat. If u have a boat it is still nice everyone there is nice and the rangers are great people to be around. Dont like the fire ban that they put out to where u can only have a fire in a metal firepit which is in a paid spot. The roads is what scare us from coming alot and the drive up but it is soo worth it for a beachy campsite with a nice fire.
A nice developed pay campground located on the south part of Deadwood Reservoir. It has fire rings, tables, water in summer, a boat ramp, and a few beach front sites. Fills up on summer weekends.
One of the better camp sites we have been to! The only down side is getting there. Good luck if you dont have a truck or SUV.
