Man! What an awesome hidden gem this museum is. Dedicated to local palaeontology and shows an impressive array of ancient artifacts including a local find Mosasaur of some significance. Take a look at the photos and make sure to get to Courtenay and check out the museum for yourself. Entry is done by donation, it’s well worth dropping $20 for you and the kids adventure.
This place is truly one of my favorite spots on Earth. It’s a hidden gem that not only boasts an incredible collection but also has two Elasmosaur fossils on display! These giants are BC's Provincial Fossils, and seeing them up close is something special. The atmosphere here is warm and welcoming, making every visit feel like a personal connection to our planet’s ancient past. If you're into fossils or just love a good museum experience, this place is a must-see. It’s a spot I keep coming back to, and it never fails to leave me in awe.
Such a wonderful museum all around! We booked the private fossil tour and enjoyed exploring the museum before our tour. Pat was a wonderful guide and showed us the amazing paleontology fids around the museum. At the river bed, Pat was patient and kind and so engaging. He really took time with our kids, especially our youngest who wants to be a paleontologist. Thank you so much, Pat. It is an experience we will never forget!
Great exhibits! Loved seeing the local collections. Booked a fossil hunting tour with my 3 year old twins and husband with pat and it was 100% worth the time and money. Pat really knew his stuff, was amazing with our kids, and made sure we all had a blast.
Update 2024! Wow has a lot changed in the last 6 years. Our grandchildren had a wonderful time doing crafts on Sat noon and the new additions kept all the adults fascinated. Our only complaint is the over the top stupid prices in the gift shop. $16 for a tube of tiny plastic dinos made in China for pennies. No need for that level of gouging.n2018 - Don't miss this. Yes it is small but very well laid out and the staff are super knowledgeable. We lived in the Valley for over 10 year and did not know the Dinosaur history of our region.
