The Cornell Orchards Store sells in-season produce and other local & Cornell products. The store is operated by The Cornell Store in partnership with CALS.
Originally founded in 1910, today the Cornell Orchards consist of over 130 acres across two properties in Ithaca and Lansing, with over 50 acres of apple trees and 5 acres of grapes collectively. The Cornell Orchards are used to facilitate research, including identifying pest and disease resistant fruit varieties, the development of IPM (integrated pest management) programs to enable more sustainable agricultural practices, studying soil quality and its effect on plant health, how fruit crops take up soil nutrients, and extending harvest periods for crops. The Cornell Orchards also enable on-campus hands-on experience in fruit production for students.
The Cornell Orchards is dedicated to researching environmentally friendly, sustainable practices, giving future fruit growers hands on experience in all aspects fruit production, and community outreach.
More than 50 varieties of apples, peaches, plums, cherries, pears, grapes, blueberries, strawberries, raspberries, blackberries, gooseberries, currants, pawpaws, and chestnuts are all grown at the Cornell Orchards. Custom blended cider is also produced every year.
