The Story Of Cooke's:
In 1924, after many years of working at Henderson Brothers, one of Canada's first time Italian warehouses, Hugh G. Cooke purchased the business and renamed the store "Cooke's". Hugh's vision was a one-of-a-kind store that would offer the finest products and service to the families he served.
Working tirelessly, he searched for only the best and most exotic foods from all over the globe. Always well groomed and tailored, Hugh was known far and wide for his huge smile, bow tie and polite bow.
Still at its original (since 1865) downtown Kingston location, Hugh's granddaughter Susan D. Cooke, following her father John, and along with her childern proudly carry on Hugh's legacy. Every year, thousands of tourists and residents shop at Hugh's unique store, drawn by its old world charm, the irrestible aroma of Cooke's fresh roasted coffee, and our world famous cheddar cheese.
