I chose them by default to handle my mother's estate when she passed because they were the ones who helped write her will. They've dragged their feet on this for THREE YEARS. I've been passed around from paralegal to paralegal as they seem to come and go from the firm very quickly. Any time I call or email they're always very rude as if I'm imposing on them by requesting they do the job I have hired them for. After trying to contact the most recent paralegal I had been working with I found out she had left the firm with no notice to me. I called the firm to see about having someone else assigned to the case to finally finish it up and apparently this office is now closed. Unsurprising considering how atrocious my entire experience has been with them. I wouldn't recommend them to my worst enemy.
This review is long overdue. I got divorced a couple of years ago and Mr. Porter made it all happen very quickly and painlessly. I received a consult and was able to ask any and all questions to make sure I was in the right hands. I had previously went to another law firm in Watertown where I received zero consult but was expected to pay a $2500 retainer to find out the next steps. I am so glad that I found Mr. Porter. My divorce was finalized within 3 months and I was kept in the loop throughout the entire process. The paralegal, Rhonda, that worked for him at the time not sure if she’s still there was wonderful as well.
Potential clients beware. We called this law office and asked if they represent home sellers during closing and asked to see a retainer. The retainer stated that an extra charge would be applied if closing is outside of Jefferson county even though they have an office in St. Lawrence county. We decided that they did not fit our needs and decided to NOT hire them and no contract was signed BUT they sent us a ridiculously high bill anyway! They can’t produce a signed contract! If we receive another notice, we will sue and this will alert their malpractice insurance. We will also report them to the NY bar association for whatever rule this violates.
After using this office satisfactorily for a property purchase, went into the office to request a referral to another lawyer who could represent me in a specialized law field. I encountered extremely rude personnel who refused to assist me in any way. For a law office that proudly posts our clients rights in their lobby, they seem to have forgotten that I was a client. Past tense. I will not use them again.
Spent mega $$$$$ and 2 years to go through a divorce in Watertown. Used this law firm and always wondered why it took so long. I guess that's the way divorce disputes go sometimes. However, what bothers me is that recently I had to request a certified copy of the decree be sent to another state. I figured after paying so much for the divorce this would a be a courtesy to finish out the divorce. Even when I contacted the attorney there was never any mention/discussion of a financial agreement or charge for services. Several weeks go by and received an email statement of charges of $182 with a 1% late fee every 30 days. So not only do I pay for services that wasn't discussed with me now I have to pay a late fee on top of that if I don't comply. I think this was a very poor demonstration in business ethics and solidifies the thought attorney's are very hard to trust at the end of the day. My advice is research all the law firms in the Watertown area before selecting this firm.
Miserable representation in a child support case. Not only did I get nothing I asked for, after a closed door session with just my attorney, the opposing attorney and the family court judge, I lost even more. My child is 20 years old; child support was ending at 22 because she is in college. After the court proceedings, I was left obligated to not only pay child support, but also full tuition, room, board AND two years of graduate school Lewis Co. Family Court. I was also overcharged. Recommend you seek help elsewhere.
Mr. Walton was wonderful at getting me full disability benefits and has a very knowledgeable staff as well. Very professional firm that will work hard for you for the results you deserve. I definitely recommend this law firm to anyone needing professional representation.
Matthew Porter is a very excellent custody attorney, his knowledge in dealing with custody cases and is very good, he is extremely supportive and encouraging . One of the best attorneys in Watertown if your seeking the best interest of the child and disabled.
