Story

Collège Jean de la Mennais is a French, private mixed secondary school on the South Shore of Montreal, Québec, Canada at 870 Chemin de Saint-Jean in the municipality of La Prairie. As of 2007, the school had about 1450 elementary and high school students. Collège Jean de la Mennais was once directed by religious brothers, although today it is directed a secular administration. The faculty is mixed between secular and religious personnel. On the school grounds there is a private cemetery which holds the graves of brothers connected to the school.HistoryThe institution was officially founded by the Brothers of Christian Instruction in 1890, an international Christian educational organization founded in 1819 in France by two priests: Gabriel Deshayes and Jean-Marie de la Mennais for the instruction of youth that has education institutions all over the world. The school was named Jean de la Mennais in 1972 in honor of Jean-Marie Robert de la Mennais, co-founder of the Brothers of Christian Instruction. Other schools in many other countries including France and Japan have the same or very similar name to Jean de la Mennais. Although it only had high school beforehand, elementary grades 5 and 6 were introduced in 1999.

One of the most prestigious high schools in Quebec and the most sought after in South Shore of Montreal.nnIf your kids love reading and books, they will definitely not be bored at this school.nnLove their new sports center!
Being the parent of a former student of Jean De la Mennais, I highly recommend this college. This is one of the last remaining institutions in Quebec where students are put to work in order to learn.nWhoever says that there is too much pressure at this school; this would mean only one thing : the student in question wants to succeed by doing minimal efforts. Studies at a serious college do not work this way.nAn advise to the school management ; I believe there is room to increase the work load at home by giving extra projects such as preparing an oral presentation project about a scientific topic and/or litterature based topic.
Don't get me wrong, as a current student at this school I am pleased with the experience so far yet some aspects could be improved. Many memories have been made at this school that are simply unforgettable. The subjects taught by the teachers are well explained however lack some professionalism you can equally feel targeted by the teachers. They also seem to set certain preferences to students which sets a bad example to their students. Finally, the learning environment is generally pleasant yet you have to familiarize coming home with at least a certain amount of stress due to some strict due dates for assignments which aren't necessarily unachievable however they will require a certain amount of work. Overall, this school has its ups and downs but is overall a great choice for your kid if you want them to have a bright future ahead of them and I certainly recommend this school.

Been to this school, very good school definitely should let your children go. A lot of activities, and lots of renovating great work. The teachers teaches you lot's of fun stuff and sometimes makes learning fun.
