I just wanted to express my sincere disappointment with the fact that one of the agents from this branch, Sean F. Clarkin, failed to show up for our appointment to view a condo in Heritage Lakes yesterday evening. My fiancé had scheduled an appointment with Mr. Clarkin for 7:00 pm, which was confirmed both via email and on the phone. At 7:10, we tried Mr. Clarkin’s cell phone, but he did not answer. By 7:20, we called the office, and someone provided his home phone number, which I subsequently dialed and finally reached Mr. Clarkin. I informed Mr. Clarkin that we were sitting in front of the condo awaiting his arrival, and perhaps there had been a miscommunication. He said, “Where is this property again?” It was truly a bizarre exchange – it was as if he had absolutely no idea what we were talking about. I refreshed him, stating the address and reminding him that we were in fact sitting there, awaiting his arrival. His response was simply: “I’m not there,” (which, by that point, was already obvious to us) “and I won’t be able to make it there.” There was no reasoning offered as to why Mr. Clarkin didn’t make our appointment. While I understand that circumstances do arise, a phone call would have been common courtesy. What bothered me most was Mr. Clarkin’s nonchalance about the issue. He said that he’d check his calendar for further showings. I told him that due to the utter lack of communication on his end, we were no longer interested in pursuing any options with him whatsoever. Nor are we interested in working with Coldwell moving forward; in fact, we’ve had a great experience with Mountain Resort Properties, and will be going through that agency now. They are friendly and reliable, and willing to recommend properties to us. Another issue we experienced with Mr. Clarkin was that he told us that it was our responsibility to seek out properties we’d like to view. I know today’s technology makes it easy for the buyer to do some research, but really, isn’t the job of the realtor to provide some suggestions? Hopefully this will serve as an example to show other realtors what not to do. I run my own business, and I value my clients’ time more than I value my own. If, due to some emergency circumstances, I need to miss an appointment, I always notify my clients as early as possible, and offer to reschedule at a time that works for them. Courtesy and communication was altogether lacking on Mr. Clarkin’s end, and I think this kind of blatant disregard for clientele is inexcusable from realtors. Perhaps Mr. Clarkin only keeps appointments for showing million-dollar properties – fine. Maybe, then, he shouldn’t be showing other properties.
