Such a great experience! Seen all three bears today. Watched two of the three during feeding. Old village was pretty neat, lots of birds, if you’re a birder. Friendly and knowledgeable staff. Habitat is nice and well laid out. Notes from staff; - Bears tend to hang outside more on the cooler days. - feeding is in a different locations and at different times depending on the bears behaviour.
They had a planned power outage the day we visited, which meant only that we didn't see video displays. We got to walk the entire complex, though, and saw all the bears, which was awesome. There's also an historic village there that's well worth checking out. The general store and trapper's cabin are especially good.
If your passing through Cochrane I would recommend a stop to visit the polar bear habitat. Fortunately, even though we stopped in the summer the bears were out and about! We were also happened arrive during feeding time for one of the bears which was neat to watch and learned a lot from the staff during the feeding. In addition to seeing the bears we enjoyed a pleasant walk around a pioneer village and neat snow mobile museum. Good value and experience.
Absolutely amazing and surreal experience. Bears are happy and healthy, majestic creatures. Was lucky enough to witness feeding time as well, what a cool experience! If you're looking to book one of their extra tours, be sure to book 48 hours or more preferably in advance to give them time to prepare Don't forget to check out the snowmobile museum and gift shop as well. Sweaters are especially good quality for a great price!
Great experience! Loved that the bears were out & doing their own thing. The handlers only interacted with that I saw so the bears literally did what they wanted. They are aware of their surroundings and may interact with visitors as they choose. The onsite museums were a nice bit of history too
Such a fantastic facility. The kind and knowledgeable staff go to great lengths to provide these bears top quality care. What I really loved was that their gift shop is thoughtfully curated, providing reasonably priced momentos like children's books on polar bears and indigenous works of art.
Always enjoy our visits to the Polar Bear Habit! The staff are friendly and knowledgeable. The only drawback I found is that when the temps are hot, there are no outside benches along the "lake trail" nor is there a shady spot for seniors to sit unless they walk back to the pavilion. Wear a sun hat and bring a cane if you plan to walk the entire Habitat and Heritage Village.
awesome place. has some of the biggest spaces for the bears ive seen. we got to see all three bears!! we were lucky enough to run into one of the staff feeding henry. he the staff was friendly and knowledgeable about the bears. heritage village was pretty cool. loved that you could go into some of the old timey buildings and see what life might've been like back then. snowmobile museum was also pretty cool.
Amazing place! We learned many things from the lovely receptionist and from the various educational displays that were around the park. We were lucky enough to see all three bears on our visit and even got to watch two of them get fed by hand! Truly a once in a lifetime experience to be able to get so close to such a magnificent animal. The bears themselves looked healthy and content as well. It was nice to walk around the heritage village and see the museum of snowmobiles too. Overall highly recommend visiting this place if you are in Cochrane!
Seeing the bears is not a guarantee with general admission. However, with the heritage village and snowmobile museum included it was a great outing. The only thing that would make things better would be picnic tables by the play areas. Note: The covid pandemic affected a lot of places. Once people start going out more and visiting places, I'm sure the Polar Bear Habitat will be even better. A few of the attractions where closed due to this.
