Rode down to the fort and the lake via the bike path from Montreal. Beautiful ride, great trail and the fort area itself is quite picturesque. Lots of cute cafes and restaurants too. Highly recommended.

Very scenic walking bike path. I have seen people fish off the banks of canal.. .Young kids should be supervised by Adult as there are locks and water in some places my have strong currant..
I was pleasantly surprised and interesting about this system of locks, which works the same as the Panama Canal, here it is for small vessels and there they are for very large ships and passenger and cargo ships, but it works the same.
We took the bike path from Chambly to St-Jean-sur-Richelieu 20 km, linear all along the canal. The path is mostly well-maintained, alternating between gravel and asphalt, mostly flat. There were a few rest stops and picnic areas along the way.
