I only visited and walked about the outside, but I thought it was very nice. It is one of the oldest buildings still standing in Clearfield, and is incorporated on the County of Clearfield flag. Flanking the front entrance are two large stone tablets telling about those who perished on 9/11 including the heroes of Flight 93 and first responders, donated by the Clearfield Volunteer Fire, and the other is the Ten Commandments donated by the Fraternal Order of Eagles. The Ten Commandments are protected by previous US Supreme Court rulings that affirm them to be so transcendent and fundamental, that no one can construe them as being in violation of church-state separation. It’s worth stopping by and photographing if in town, cheers.
If I could give 0 stars I would. Clearfield County Courthouse has shown a disgusting display of discrimination that I witnessed. The victim recorded a video of everything. The employee working there immediately harassed her, asking her where she was going, and then when she gave him her answer, he either did not believe it or misheard her. Instead of him representing the Courthouse in an exceptional manner and asking for clarification if he misunderstood, he began harassing her and accusing her of lying. The employee escalated the situation by accusing her of lying by then calling the local police officers, one that he knows by name according to the video. Because of the relationship this employee had with one of the local police officers Mike is his name, the officers showed up with biased information and immediately escalated the situation even further. Then, when the victim told the police and the employee that she was not lying and had proof in the video that she recorded, it was refused to even acknowledge the evidence by both the police and the employee. They went further and blatantly stated that they “don’t care about the video.” This showed the police’s negligence on their training to effectively deescalate the situation and is evidence to show their bias. Furthermore, the employee began berating the victim after she said that they were preventing her from using the elevator, as she said she had a physical disability. To which the employee replied that she was mentally disabled. The police said nothing to the employee while he used derogatory language towards the victim. This situation not only reflects badly on the people at the Clearfield County Courthouse, as a court house should be a tool to help the entire community, but also reflects badly on the local police of Clearfield County who should be protecting and serving the entire community instead of escalating a situation, disregarding evidence, and showing blatant bias.
Very dated office design with limited waiting areas for services. Be prepared to wait for most reasons to be there. Patience is definitely a must with each visit and parking is a little difficult with town street limited availability and the need to revisit the parking meter.
After calling the courthouse to get important information regarding my home, the woman that took my call couldn't find it in her heart to have the decency to show me any type of respect. It saddens my heart, knowing the difficult times people are going through and she couldn't speak to me with respect, I can imagine how she talks to people that have a hard time understanding legal documents. I thought if we had any questions it would be okay to call to get the right information so I wouldn't lose my home. She made it clear to me that I was interrupting her day and she didn't want to be bothered.
The courthouse is supposed to be a place of justice, not of discrimination and presuming guilty until proven innocent. That goes against everything our nation and justice system SHOULD be standing for, but time and time again we are shown that there is rarely justice in our broken country. The young woman this courthouse harassed on her way to get a public defender posted evidence of her harassment and the poor way the police responded as well, immediately assuming her to be in the wrong before they knew what really happened. As soon as she said she had it all on video, they stopped. I hope to see a court case against this lame excuse of a courthouse on the news.
