Breakfast food is one of my favorites, and I was stoked to get to try this place. Its high reviews have been reflected well. The service was tip notch. We were seated quickly and served water and beverages quickly. The cups were refilled very quickly when needed. Our waitress came as soon as the rest of our group arrived. I ordered the breakfast combo #6, which comes with 2 eggs, hashbrowns, a choice of meat, and a pancake. I also ordered a side of Hollandaise. The best part was the pancake, homemade, and cooked to perfection. I've wanted to learn how to make these kinds of pancakes but have yet to learn the secret. The hashbrowns are a great portion and were so golden and crisp. The bacon was a bit overcooked, but I don't mind crunchy bacon. My friend ordered the south of the border omelet and was content. Another friend ordered the traditional eggs Benedict. She was happy except the underside of the English muffins were burnt. My child ordered off the kid's menu. The waffle was a but overcooked and had burnt marks, and the bacon was a bit charred. So she didn't want to eat much of it. The waffle tasted pretty good. One disclaimer is that the small business only takes cash. Credit and debit cards are not accepted due to the rates. There's an ATM on site. It would have been appreciated if this was stated at any point of our outing, whether upon being seated, when ordering, or when the check was delivered. Not once was it stated. I later saw a sign post on the wall stating this information. I wanted to cover the entire bill, but don't carry that much cash or ATM card. That was an inconvenience, but I'm glad I had enough cash to cover my portion. Also, it would be nice if they could offer credit card services for those willing to pay a service fee as I've seen at other businesses. I would return to this fine establishment and great experience overall. Thanks for a delicious breakfast!! Kid-friendliness: There's a kids menu and coloring page.
This place was great! My old man and I gave this place an opportunity and it didn't fail. It was definitely an awesome experience. Staff was kind and generous. Food was fantastic. The cafe itself was coozy. I am going to be coming here a lot more. Places like this deserve all the props it can get. Good job Capital View Cafe!Dine in: YesOutdoor seating: NoTakeout: Yes
This cafe is a wonderful, cozy spot we stumbled on while in St. Paul. We travel a lot for tournaments and the breakfast along with the service at The Capital View was by far some of the best we’ve had! The food was full of flavor, generous portion sizes and our cups of coffee were never empty before the next refill. We left full and caffeinated! Highly recommended stopping in!
My new favorite breakfast place! I have been to all the great spots in the Twin Cities metro area and this is the best menu I have seen. Food is EGGS-ELENT, prices are nice, and staff is great!
I ordered take out. I had the everything omelet, fried potatoes and cinnamon raisin toast. The omelet was good. The toast was burnt and the potatoes had good flavor but over cooked as well. My husband had the bone in ham. Very big and juicy. Shredded hash brown which was burnt as well. The eggs were fine. Overall, I can give them another try. It maybe better the next time.
Good food, tho lots of cheese so be sure to let them know how much you'd like. Went on a Sunday morning and were seated pretty quickly, and had great service. Highly recommend, especially for those hangover cures
Absolutely delicious food, best omelette I have ever had. The service was quick and friendly, in spite of how busy they were. This is one of my favorite breakfast spots.
Pancakes were good, biscuits and gravy was not. It said homemade sausage gravy, but if that is true, then they badly need a new recipe, since it looked and tasted like it was from a can. Great atmosphere though, with nice hand-painted portraits on the walls.Food: 3/5
Food was very good, but the prices listed were not what we were charged, each item was at least two dollars higher than listed in the menu. Then when it was time to pay they gave us a hard time about paying by card, they should have said something before we ordered! Had the prices actually been what was listed I MIGHT have had enough cash on me. Maybe. Most people don't carry a lot of cash these days. I'm hesitant to return if the prices are going to be at the whim of the server and not what is printed, even though the food was good.
Very good experience for casual breakfast. We lost power, so out for breakfast and craving Heavos Rancheros. Wife had excellent waffles. They got very busy, still took care of us. If you like a homey spot with plenty of seating, this is the place.
