Totally a wow experince...I will be back again... very quick and over the top friendly service from these lovely two servers. I ordered an egg salad sandwich and chicken soup, my sandwich was so fresh and it came with spinach and chunks of tomatoes ...so good! My hot chicken soup was full of big chunks of chicken and lots of yummy vegetables, another wow!!! The best was these two sweethearts with their warm hearts and very quick service, thanks for making my lunch a great experience...a must stop for next time ....thanks from Elaine McInnes Prince George BC
We had bowl of chowder and a pick plate which consists of pizza rolls..chippets...deep fried pickles and wontons it was very yummy all of it... would definitely recommend the food here while in tatamagouche crusing around. And check out all the shops here lots of cute little places to shop in.Food: 5/5
I'm shocked to see so many good reviews of this place. If there was a zero star, I would give it that. The service was terrible - so slow. They were out of EVERYTHING. I ordered the Lobster Roll and the server proceeds to tell me they are out of lobster, clams, mussels, scallops, and soup. It would have been really helpful to know that before ordering drinks and waiting for 10 minutes before even getting them. The food arrived somewhat quickly and the fish and fries were bland and tasted freezer burnt. And with the tiniest portion of coleslaw and gross Kraft brand tartar sauce. The server never came back to fill our drinks and only at the end of the meal when I asked for the bill informed us we had to go to the cash inside to pay. The washrooms were also filthy and rundown. And I think they are also confused as to what constitutes a 'local beer'. There are so many great craft beers in Nova Scotia. But Coors and Bud make the list?
Steady trade on a snowy Fri in January. Great breakfast. Menu looked good for other meals. Lovely decor.Food: 5/5
If this is all you read, then get the clam chowder. But now, in more detail: The Chowder House has a very cozy atmosphere, with great service and good prices. The salad pictured was good... But chowder was fabulous! With not just clams but shrimp, scallops, and fish too, and seasoned perfectly, served with warm bread. Did I mention it smells absolutely divine? For a very reasonable price too! To the owners: I was expecting my baguette to be toasted with the soup, but it's still very good nonetheless. I'll be sure to come again the next time I'm in Nova Scotia!
We frequently go to the Chowder House and have always been very happy with our food, so this is a one off. This rating is for the food only as the service was excellent. We ordered take out, two hamburgers with fries, drinks and deserts. Although the burgers were well dressed onions, tomatoes and condiments, cheese the meat was very dry and tasteless. We were so looking forward to juicy tender burgers. Additionally, the fries have a coating which, may be pleasing for some but, we would prefer fries without; just personal preference. Finally, I chose a brownie for my desert, which was extremely dry; I ended up throwing it out. Would we return to the Chowder House? Yes, as our experiences have been mostly good. Hopefully, if we ever order burgers again, we will not be disappointed.
Stopped in for a quick bowl of chowder. It was fairly busy and I wasn’t sure about seating myself or waiting. So I asked. My server was really nice but never came back to see how my chowder was. Had she asked would have let her know it was a bit too salty. I ate it it wasn’t hot and tasty even though over salted. 2 tiny slices of baguette was a bit sad. A nice biscuit would have been wonderful. Only food I’ve tried there so far. The fish that went out to another table looks really good.
The price point is fair. Had the best potato bacon soup I have ever eaten. The fish and chips were good. Crispy fries the single piece is a little small but delicious. The service is great! The feel of the restaurant is lovely. Would recommend.
The food was ok if a bit too greasy and the chowder was average. Service was really slow though. It is a very small cafe, with about 6-8 tables. Waitress kept forgetting things on our order and we had to keep reminding her to bring things. Update from COVID times: The service was much better the second time and even during the restrictions, the waitress was fabulous.
Chowder was delicious as expected. Service was friendly and accommodating. Beer reasonably priced. Dinner was excellent, as was breakfast when we returned the following morning. Just wish it was open a little later closed at 7pm
