Large menu and friendly staff and atmosphere. The food experience was somewhat mixed. Nam khao was tasty, pork skewers were pretty good, but the crispy chicken stir fry was more of a takeout experience. Serving sizes are large but the service itself was slow. 3.5 stars, worth a try for the hard-to-find Laotian menu variety.
Amazing service and flavorful food! From the moment we walked in, we were warmly greeted by the friendly staff and showed the specials of the day. We ordered the satay chicken, pad Thai, red curry, and Thai iced tea. The chicken was delicious, the pad Thai was pretty standard and the red curry was good. I would say it’s a great Thai/Laos/Asian cuisine fusion spot. The staff continuously checked in with us throughout the night and honestly this place has the best service I’ve seen in awhile! Lovely new hidden gem in uptown Waterloo :
Came with a large group for lunch. Lots of variety on the menu, unfortunately they were out of roast duck which I was hoping to try. Tried the Crispy chicken and a bunch of other starters to share, the Champa platter, mango rolls and chicken skewers. All of the food was very fresh, came pretty quickly and tasted great. Just don't come if you have severe peanut allergies!
So glad we found this place ... food was great. We are usually not often in around downtown, but we had a bit of shopping to take off, so we came here on a whim. So glad we came by. The service was very friendly, fast and informative, the food was delicious and properly seasoned. My wife said her teriyaki stir-fry was excellent! And we both loved the fresh rolls with the deelish peanut sauce. The atmosphere was relaxed and not too noisy. We'll be back, next time we make the drive to the downtown core.
The best service I’ve ever had. The owner was really fun to talk to! The food was great! I tried all of my friends’ dishes and they were awesome too! The desserts were so delicious just wished I remembered to take a picture of them. I’m hoping to come here more often so I can try everything on their menu.
Love that there's an authentic Laotian restaurant in Waterloo! Definitely enjoyed our meal here and the owners are amazing. We stumbled by this restaurant literally looking for pad thai and I saw that they had Laotian sausages which are my favourite!! And they make it well! All the food had a lot of flavour and were all big portions. Can't wait to come back and try more dishes like their coconut rice, larb and sakoo yat sai!
My wife and I enjoyed lunch here on my birthday. The restaurant was a nice family run place, and satisfied my craving for some new flavours and textures! I took some recommendations from our friendly server, the chef's husband. I started with the mango rolls - these were nice to start, as they fruit provided some lightness, but with the meat inside and peanut sauce, they were still hearty enough. I went with Larb Moo as my main, taking the server's recommendation of chicken/chicken heart as my protein. It is also available with beef or pork. The larb was spicy and flavourful. There was some in house made chili paste that I enjoyed with my rice. I finished with a warm pudding style Lao inspired dessert which hit the spot - it reminded me of the flavours I enjoy with the type of pudding style dessert I'd be served for a birthday at my Bengali parents' house, but this Lao dessert had a totally different texture and consistency. It's nice to be exposed to some new flavours and textures, and I'd love to come back to try more of the menu.
My wife and I recently visited this restaurant and we were impressed with the food. We ordered the roasted crispy duck on egg noodles and Tom kha gai for our mains, and also tried the iced coffee with condensed milk. We found the food to be great and were satisfied with our choices. The ambiance of the restaurant was decent, and since we visited at 3:30 pm, we were the only ones there. As a result, we received great service from the staff. We assume that the service would be great during other times as well. The price was affordable as well, and the total bill for the three items we ordered came to only $50 plus tip. In terms of parking, we noticed that there was street parking available in front of the restaurant, but we chose to park in the town center parking lot instead, which was only a three-minute walk away. The parking lot was also free on weekends and offered two hours of free parking on weekdays. However, we did notice one issue with the menus during our visit. We found that the prices on the two menus were not consistent. One menu had higher prices than the other, which was a bit confusing for us as customers. We think that the restaurant should ensure that their menus are synced and have consistent prices to avoid confusion for their customers. Despite this issue, we still enjoyed our meal. Overall, we had a positive experience at this restaurant and would recommend it to anyone looking for delicious food at an affordable price.
Ordered SPECIAL SET!!! 50$ for two. What I got. One plate of soup 10$ max, two plates with noodles 12$ for plate max. "Fresh rolls", how can rice wrapped in rice dough with a piece of lettuce be called rolls!? And glass of water! Just water, no ice or lemon. Although, judging by the price of the set, this water was brought from Tibet. In Toronto, even in the smallest and most modest restaurant, you will be served water with lemon and ice and green tea for FREE!!! And it won't cost as much as a meal at a restaurant with three Michelin stars! Sauces and spices, salt and pepper were missing. Usually they are either on the table or they are brought along with cutlery. But no! They are only available upon request! Probably afraid they will be stolen! And for dessert they gave two tablespoons of sweet porridge with nuts. It's hard to describe this taste. He's terrible!!! It would be better if they put one slice of pineapple! I do not recommend this restaurant! In another Asian restaurant this dinner will coast maybe 35-40$ max with tips. Plus the food was just disgusting. So I'm living a restaurant with empty pockets and hungry!
We went to Champa Kitchen on a weekday dinner time and it wasn’t too busy. We were given our menus when we got seated. We were a larger group so we took a bit longer to decide what we wanted and the waiter was really patient and helpful while they took our order. We really enjoyed the drinks; Thai Ice Tea With Condensed Milk $6.95 and Mango Blizzard Shake $7.95. Both quite sweet though so if you don’t like drinks that are too sweet, you may not like it. The Beef Satay 2 Pieces $10.50 were alright, nothing too special but the peanut sauce was good. For the mains, we got the Crispy Chicken Over Pan Fry Egg Noodle $22.95, the chicken wasn’t that crispy but it was well seasoned. I liked the noodles but not everyone at the table liked it. Pan Fry Rice Noodle In Garlic Soya Sauce with mixed seafood $17.75 had a good kick and the seafood was tasty. Pad Mee Noodle $15.95, same issue with the egg noodles. The mains were only okay for most of us and they were more on the expensive end. Finally, we got the mango sticky rice for dessert. It was good, but I’ve definitely had better, the dish wasn’t sweet enough and the mango was borderline sour not a fan of sour. Liked that it’s a small restaurant that mixes a few cultures together; Laos, Thai, and Viet food. However, some dishes were hits and misses among the table. We liked the drinks but I think we just need to try different dishes next time. Overall, not a bad experience but nothing super special and since the dishes are a bit more expensive, we expected more.
