The triage nurse was extremely rude to patients who aren't fluent in French. She was completely dismissive and did not treat me with an ounce of respect as a patient, merely because I could not speak French.nnI even had my own diagnosis and offered a fast track but instead, she made me wait several hours while I watched all the patients in the waiting room be changed more than once. It’s like she wanted me to leave without getting medical care.nShe even admitted at the end that it was her decision to put me in or not based on her judgment, whether I was needing urgent medical care. Seriousness.nnI was asking for the same treatment that I got in Prince Edward Island the day before. I just needed the exact same treatment to get on with my trip back to Toronto.nn100% prejudice against English or Ontario or Toronto or who knows what but it’s unacceptable.nnIf you can’t speak French fluently, I would not recommend this hospital, especially if this nurse is on her shift.nnIn all my years in many hospitals throughout Ontario, mostly, and other provinces, this is absolutely the worst emergency room I’ve ever been to. Worse than poor healthcare.nnThey have paid Parking only. They’re making money off patients waiting to see doctors.
I was treated in emergency after a serious fall. I speak no French but never felt unwelcome. The nurses, technicians and doctor I saw were all compassionate, professional, and did their best to communicate with me in English, which they managed quite well. I was seen and diagnosed very quickly, with remarkably little wait time. My experience could not have been better - I am grateful to everyone who looked after me. The hospital was also quite nice - less important than the care but certainly a bonus.
Extremely rude to customers who aren’t fluent in French. As an exchange student who was there, I went through a very difficult time trying to use what little French speaking skills I had to try to seek help medically. They were completely insulting and did not treat me with an ounce of respect as a patient, merely because I could not speak French well. I will never be seeking medical advice there if I ever return to Riviere-du-loup. I hope the hospital staff there receive the same disrespect if they go to a hospital outside of Quebec that don’t have French speaking staff.
Thank You to the Emergency room Staff at Riviere-du-Loup.nI was in a Motorcycle crash on A85 and taken to Hospital. I do not know French. The staff was amazing and worked very hard to stitch me up and set my broken bones, and their english was better than my french. After I realized we could have used google translate to better understand each other.
Very friendly staff and we were helped right away.
