We were stopping through to check out the beach and decided to ask if they had a spot for our 28ft camper. The sweet staff shared they had a cancelation and we scored a great spot at C308. It was spacious and had plenty of trees/shrubs between the neighbors. The only thing that would have made it better would be a water hookup. The beach is beautiful and we would definitely stay again at this campground.
Nice and quiet during the week. Beautiful views. Lake was a great temperature for swimming! I love coming here. I have been coming here for over 40 years and this will always be my favorite vacation spot.
I sail here, launch from Juneau county park. Weekdays in the summer I often have the entire lake to myself. A jet ski or two. Maybe a pontoon boat or another sailboat. Weekends is a different story. Many more trailers. The algae blooms are less of a problem here than on Petenwell to the north. Water is pretty clear well into august. Not so in Petenwell.
A very nice spot to camp. We spent four nights in Loop C, non reservable. Arrived on a Wednesday and there were lots of spots to choose. But by the weekend, it was full. The office staff was kind and helpful. The host was helpful and friendly. We had some ground hornets which he dispatched the first night. Our spot was just across the road from the lake. Nice that every other lakefront site was closed, allowing easy access to the water for everyone. Kayaking was good during the week and early on Saturday and Sunday. Otherwise the heavy boat traffic made for wakes. Boaters were courteous. Campground boat ramp was nice. Beach was clean. There was a small algae bloom due to the heat. Showers were good, clean bathrooms. Fifty cents buys a five min rinse! The potable water was ok, but there is a water filtration system at the B bathrooms which was nice. Quiet on the weekend. No roudy people and the sheriff drove thru a few times which was nice. Depending on the weather, the biting flies were challenging. Be prepared. Only feedback would be to offer recycling of cans, etc. Dumpsters were provided so we brought our recycling home. $23 per night including electric was a great deal.
Good family fun. Beautiful views and the park was clean and very well maintained. Would recommend it for anyone looking for a place to spend time as a family. There are conveniently located restrooms and showers as well. Great place to go camping. The new owners are very friendly and making it a family friendly atmosphere. There were hardly any bugs. Will be spending a lot of time here thus summer. And county park passes for the whole season are only $20 which is affordable on almost any budget.
Beautiful place. There is a toilet and a shower but sometimes there was only cold water. A shower costs 25 cents in 5 minutes, be sure to bring a coins. Ice and ice cream can be bought on site.
Nice campground located next to Castle Rock Lake. Campsites in the "A" loop are large and tend to attract large groups with multiple tents, RVs and cars. During our stay, these groups were well behaved and observed the campground's quiet hours. The "C" loop sites are more isolated with a few choice sites right on the lake shore, but they are available on a first come/first served basis only. We did not stay in the "B" loop, but it appeared these sites were occupied by long-term seasonal campers as some of the RVs we saw in May were still there in August. Facilities were in decent condition, but I did see a lot of small pieces of trash scattered around our campsite. It would be nice if the campers would pick up after themselves!
Came for the beach since I was told it was nicer than Mirror Lake State Park’s beach. They were similar, but Castle Rock’s was slightly larger, and I’m told it has a nicer bottom, not as mucky as Mirror Lake. I wouldn’t know for sure, though, since I didn’t go in the water. I’m not a beach person, but my friends are and I wanted to be with them. I liked laying out on under the shady trees near the beach and watching the activities like a family group dragging out giant float after giant float a camel, a rocker, a unicorn, a shark, etc.. They got them in the water, and then they promptly tipped them over whenever anyone in the family got on top of one. There were some friendly dogs there, but they weren’t allowed on the beach, so one sadly got tied to a stake in the grass and had to watch their family have all the fun from a distance. Another cute 2-year old dog cried anytime anyone came near it, you could tell it wanted to play, but it’s owner was an elderly gentleman who just wanted to sit in a chair and look at stuff kind of like me. Maybe it’s just me, but I would never bring my pet anywhere fun on vacation and then ignore it for hours. Anyway, it’s a very crowded place on a beautiful summer day and if you like crowds and people-watching, this is the place for you. Lots and lots of people on the water boating, paddle boarding, swimming, etc. An ice cream truck came around a couple of times, there was volleyball nearby. My friends and I brought our bocce set and played a round. Nice mid-day outing.
Beautiful views of the lake, plenty of area to walk the dogs & large pine trees everywhere. 30 minutes north of the Wisconsin Dells.
Great park!!! 9 holes of disc golf, beach, boat launch!!! There gonna be doing a huge remake of the old section next season so camping will be limited but watch out for 2024 season!!!
