Story

The Carriage House Café in Ithaca, New York, is a beautifully restored two-story carriage house with a full-service restaurant on the first floor and an events hall on the second floor, known simply as The Hayloft. Although the original 1850s structure required extensive restoration, a majority of the original material was used in the restorative process. The result is a warm, inviting location, with beautiful details and tremendous character.

Worth the wait. The food we ordered was delicious. We're looking forward to our next visit. Dec 2017 Update - Still amazing food, worth the wait. Everything is fresh and made with care. Staff is friendly and attentive. We can't say enough good things. Just love this place!

Food poisoning from very bad eggs!!! I love Carriage House normally, and was very excited to bring my husband there. I have given it highly rated reviews in the past, but this time unfortunately I must not give that. I ordered a breakfast sandwich, one of my favorite items from the menu that I've ordered many times in the past, with two eggs over easy. When the ex came out, they were still uncooked. They were dripping white goo, that was still clear because it was as if it was raw egg. It looked as if I had taken an egg separator to it. I hesitantly sent it back, I do not like sending things back at restaurants, and ask that they do the eggs again because they were raw. They brought it out a second time and, assuming it was fine, I took a few bites. This was just as raw as the first time. I was nearly in tears at this point, because I felt so uncomfortable sending something back to the kitchen a second time. Our server Mark was excellent about the whole thing, but the sandwich had to be sent back a third time. He even agreed that the eggs were very undercooked, and that he would never have accepted that as a customer himself. When the sandwich came out the third time, it was better, and I ate the whole thing, but at that point I had already gotten food poisoning. I was sick for the next 5 days, with some very unfortunate stomach issues. It was very clear that my body did not react well to eating raw eggs on two versions the sandwich in a row. I must say our service was excellent, but it was a horrible experience in terms of food quality. Two eggs over easy is something I've ordered there many times, and have not had issues in the past. This should be a fairly simple order, and it almost seemed as though the kitchen was intentionally sending it back under cooked the second time in the third time. Horrible experience, unfortunately that has meant that I will not be returning to Carriage House in the future.

THIS. IS. MY. FAVORITE. PLACE. IN. ITHACA. I don't give a lot of 5 star reviews. Even the reviews I give typically have at least one negative. I have no complaints about the Carriage House. After hearing about it, driving past, it and googling the menu countless times...I finally made the trip for brunch one day and have come back almost every weekend since. The cost is a little cringe inducing, but I've tried many many things on the menu and enjoy it every time. It's a splurge place for sure. More than the great food, is the ambiance. The upstairs loft that they've renovated is absolutely gorgeous. They have a wine happy hour from 4-6PM and they always hook it up and make sure you get your moneys worth. This has continually stayed as an Ithaca favorite. I had high hopes the first time I went to the Carriage House and The Loft and they've yet to disappoint. Hopefully the trend continues.

Even though they forgot to put in our order and our food was very late, our waiter was very apologetic and brought out free espresso drinks. The food was very good and the scones were awesome. Coffee has a nice low acid taste. Prices are slightly high but will go back.

One of the best breakfasts ever: Special Coffee that is also very cheap, and insanely good pancakes and french toast. You need to go here if you visit Ithaca.
