Story

Carleton Place High School is a high school serving the town of Carleton Place, in Eastern Ontario, Canada. It is a member of the Upper Canada District School Board, and draws pupils from Carleton Place and the surrounding Lanark County area.HistoryThe story of high schools in Carleton Place is a lengthy one with many interesting sidelights. The corner stone of the present High School (Prince of Wales High School) was laid in 1923 and under it was placed a scroll containing the following information: The High School has made many moves since it was started, about 1848, as a Grammar School. Mr. Nelson, a highly educated gentleman, was the first teacher. The first building used was a frame one on the Central School grounds. From there it was moved to Hurd’s Hall on Bell Street, being the upper flat of the building for many years known as McKay’s Bakery. After that the present Holiness Church on the corner of Bridge and Herriott Streets, was used for a short time. Then the north-east room in the present Central School was used. From here it was moved to Newman’s Hall, in the rooms now occupied as temporary quarters for a High and a Public School class. This school went back again to the Central School building for a short time, until the present used building on High Street was ready for occupation in 1882.Note: Newman’s Hall is the building now occupied by the Brewers’ Retail Store and the school on High Street is the present Prince of Wales School. For nearly 30 years the people of Carleton Place were considering the question of better school accommodation, but owing to the exigencies of the times, such as loss of population, removal of industries and expenditures on other public undertakings, small progress was made. However, with the rapid growth of the rising generation during the past few years, we have become convinced that more school accommodation should be provided.

Wow!! The teachers here, especially the ones in grade 7 are weak individuals. Mrs burrows or whatever you want to call her, a demon probably, called some kid a SPED special education insane!!! This place is absolutely vile!!!! If you value your children, take them out and homeschool them if you can, their mental health will deteriorate here. Some of the substitutes just come in, sit down and don’t teach anything, they just come for a paycheque. Any chance they get they try and go home and blame the kids for not listening. The teachers DO NOT CARE about teaching here. After the pandemic, everyone has become weak, lazy and absolutely vile. Mrs G can’t even spell THEIR correctly, won’t let kids go to the washroom. Unbelievable, start homeschooling your kids!!!!!!!!
Please if your kid suffers from mental health do not send them to this school. When I went to school here, my experience almost killed me. I was dealing with severe severe depression, most was caused from the terrible environment. I was only in grade 8 when grade 12’s bullied me, the classes were not friendly for those that had learning issues, and they weren’t understanding at all. When my mom dreadfully had to call school just about every morning because of my depression major attendance issue, the secretary would always judge and make comments. So, thanks. That only made it worse. It made my mom sad, and me feel worse about something I ultimately could NOT control. When trying to adjust at all to my mental health, their solution was to shove me in a classroom with people that were special needs students. Then, because they can afford to drop out whoever makes their reputation look bad, they sent me a school counsellor who threatened to take my parents to court if i didn’t go to school. Boom, suicide attempt. Thanks guys! I finally got out of that school after being introduced to somewhere that actually believed in mental health. Despite TRS reputation, it saved me. Parents, do not waste your time with this school. Not if you value your child’s mental health. Don’t put them through what I had to go through. In the end, I left with multiple hospital trips, worse depression, anxiety, literal fear of the students and teachers and a hatred for this school. Genuinely, be better. Do better. A 13-17 year old should never feel this way about a school.
The food is genuinely so horrible that me and my friends had explosive diarrhea and food poisoning. Plus it costs 2.30 for a small water when you could get a whole pack for 4 dollars talk about scammers plus the food in generally is so badly cooked it reminds me of hell. Also the kids are a bunch of bullies that wear cowboy boots with ice cream hair and mullets.
They can’t even hire a full time teacher, they have to hire substitutes all the time. So many bullies there too, and teachers swear and push their political agendas there on the kids.
Half the teachers mark based on favoritism and if you buy them coffee. Someone who showed up once a week and didn't complete all the work got a 98 because they bought the teacher coffee. Graduation was unorganized as they forgot to mention some honour roll/ontario scholars. Bathrooms are filled with vapers all the time and the school does nothing about it. I'm only giving this one star because some teachers are good. The last month of school a classroom was infested with sewage flies. Also someone needs to fire Mrs. Price.
