I wanted to share my thoughts about the Canlan Sports facility in Scarborough and its instructors.nnAs someone who grew up in a Mediterranean climate, I was completely unfamiliar with sports such as skiing and ice skating. [In fact, where I come from, when it snows, people are more likely to wonder whether they should eat the snow or slide on it! ] It may sound like a strange joke, but there is some truth to it.nnHow did I discover Canlan Sports? Honestly, I don't know exactly how it happened, but somehow our paths crossed.nnMy six-year-old daughter started taking her first ice skating lessons there, and I was amazed by how friendly, understanding, and welcoming everyone was.nnI would especially like to mention Rayyan, who has been an incredible instructor for my daughter. He is always cheerful, patient, understanding, and wonderful with children. I would like to sincerely thank him for all his support and encouragement.nnI should also give credit to Joshua and the other instructors. They welcomed us warmly and treated us with great kindness and understanding.nnEven though my daughter has only taken five or six lessons so far, she can already skate, play confidently on the ice, and most importantly, have a lot of fun.nnFor that reason, I would like to thank all of the staff at Canlan Sports. And once again, a very special thank you to Rayyan and Joshua, my daughter's instructors, for making her first experience on the ice such a positive and enjoyable one.nnWe truly appreciate everything you do!
Typical Canlan, if you’ve been to one, you’ve been to them all.nnI will say the bathrooms were probably the cleanest I’ve seen at a Canlan facility.nnThe viewing sucks, it really does, especially if you’re in the cold area, no where to sit and minimal places to stand.nnLastly I know it’s an arena, we live in arenas 11 months of the year, but the Canlan arenas are FREEZING! Holy smokes they’re cold! Bundle up people!
Not the best facilities! It’s nearly December and several of the ice pads do not free up until nearly the end of the game and still show standing water. The ice stays spongy especially in the goal crease’s. Very low glass along the entire side boards leads to unnecessary stoppages of play as the puck frequently goes over. Not set up well for spectators whatsoever. Hope we never have to play here again!
My review is strictly to the core: Make your rinx colder. I’ve been to numerous of ranks and none is comfortable just wearing a jacket. The only place I feel comfortable warm is at your rings.nAlways a pool of water on top, not frozen after Zamboni so when you shaved eyes on their blade and Hockey sticks, so sticky to hit the puck properly.
I visited this location on April 19 with my 5- and 8-year-old and had a very disappointing experience. The service was extremely slow, and the manager was incredibly rude. There was a table upstairs being held for customers who were downstairs watching the game, and despite explaining that I needed to sit with my young kids, both the manager and waitress refused to clear the table because it was being held for someone that appeared to be well known to the staff as they were waving to each other through the glass window. As a result, I had to sit separately from my children at a bar table between two strangers, which was very uncomfortable. Overall, poor lack of basic consideration and safety for young children.
